Various Artists– "Springtime In Belsen" - (Sadist Records – SIB 001) 1998

Like some time-warped anti-matter west-end Juke Box musical, this insults on every level. For example The Yodler Killers ,from Switzerland, has the one and only Dr Josef Mengele on drums.....this is a little known fact about the original 'Angel Of Death' himself.
Luckily I like my Punk Rock irreverent, beyond Stupid, and played by a bunch of musically incompetent politically incorrect continental European burks....;don't we all?
This is the factor that made the Stranglers stand out from the otherwise 'woke' before their time punk throng.Mainly thanks to having a Franglais classical guitarist and karate black belt in their midst, arriving via Guildford.
Frankly, anything with a track by Italian retardo's 'Tampax' on it, has to be worth a quick track skipping listen.
I have reviewed... gulp...."Tampax(in the cunt)" before.......(OMG?)....I paraphrase myself...it's an ultimate example of the kind of retarded sexuality last mentioned in Spinal Tap. Giggling in the classroom, unthink rock by repressed catholic boys who've just heard that ladies have a menstrual cycle, and....giggle....they use tampons....giggle,titter.
This tune is very probably the zenith of Stupid as we understand it. Download it and appall your Woke friends, especially if you don't want them to be your friends anymore;........unless they're the kind of lowdown pond-dwelling fuckwits that Tampax are, then they'll want to be with you forever.
The K9's are the cred giving English Punk band here, even giving Tampax a serious challenge in the ignoramus stakes.
There's even a Noo Yawk 'punk' band too,who sound like an English Punk band????
What The Prats, from Scotland, are doing on here is almost insulting, them being one of the greatest groupz wot ever existed...right?
SEHR SCHNELL do a blatantly plagarised version of Wire's "Lowdown",probably lifted from an imported copy of the "Live at Roxy" Album?
The punk thievery stops not there, as Japanese punk by numbers band ,"The Stalin", do Blitzkreig Bop for us, just in case you've never heard it...which i think they secretly hope you haven't...but we have,so...?
I guess this is someone trying to do something like one of those Killed By Death compilations, which sell in their thousands, and the profits go to some hidden Finnish bank account.
However its fantastically stupid stuff, and full of the kind of things that may get you Cancelled.....a nobler cause I can not imagine.
It's Banned from being sold on Discogs...what more glowing a recommendation do ya need?
Altogether now....."Its Springtime for Belsen and Anarchieeeeee"

Die 2. Liga - "Sessions, Live, and Studio 1980-81"

Not only did West Germany have their own Residents (Der Plan), they also had their own version of The Prats too. Modestly called Die 2. Liga (The Second Division), they formed a 'Punk' group(average age 12)played a few live gigs, did a session for Rondo Records, and released a very limited edition tape( a limited edition of 5 I am told!)
This stuff was (re-)released on limited edition vinyl a couple of years ago, but thanks to Die or DIY's German chum, Michael Festerling, we now have far more tracks than on those impossible to find discs.
Punk Rock had a fine tradition of including everyone excluded from such previously exclusive fashionable cliques, like the reprehensible 'Bromley Contingent' in the UK.
The likes of Eater, The Prats, and The Fatal Microbes would have been excluded, along with the women, from many other youth cults.
We can now add Die 2. Liga to this roll of honour, as champions of German 'Outsider Punk'.
Basically they sound like The Prats, but with better equipment, and they sing in German.

In the words of Dirk Moll, the drummer,

"We were founded in 1980 and had our first appearance at the Unterstufenfest (lower school party ?!?) at our high school. All members of EA80 were there ,too, through which we were also motivated to form a band and always appeared as a supporting band with them.
An exception was the gig with ÖSTRO 430 and ZK (see photos).

Our average age was “12″.

In 1983 we disbanded due to lack of perspective and because we were too old."

(NB...
standing, enviously, in the middle of the photo left to the girl with the white jacket Campino of ZK .He is now the singer of the what most people seem to consider as 'punk rock superstars' „Die Toten Hosen“)

2. Liga were:

Mario Bocks guitar,

Marcus Hardelauf vocals;

Holger Zander bass (not on the (studio ?!?) recordings, though);

Martin Kircher bass ( on the (studio ?!?) recordings and vocals on „Jungen und Technik“) and

Dirk Moll drums.

Various Artists - "Earcom 1" (Fast product 9a) 1979

The must have compilation of 1979 was EARCOM 1 - which was famous for including the quintessential DIY band, The Prats. A bunch of four high school friends: Paul McLaughlin, David Maguire, Greg Maguire, and Tom Robinson(not the gay one). While their instruments were basic - including a cardboard drum kit - they were able to quickly produce a demo which they sent to a local indie label Fast Product, and in the anything can happen atmosphere of the age, they ended up on this record. Subsequently they got to do a couple of peels sessions, but adolescence ruined them and they split in 1981.
The Prats are covered in more detail earlier in this blog, with their full recorded activities for download (Click Here!)
Love the Blank Students, and their singers 'I'm a thick and I don't give a fuck' delivery  .The Flowers were pretty good too, but probably too competent as musicians I wager.
New Wave mega-stars The Rezillo's make a guest appearance, probably unknown to Sire Records which is why they aren't credited; oh the rebelliousness of it all?
Pretty much everything on here is fantastic, a classic.

Tracks:

A1 - Prats - Prats 2
A2 - Blank Students - Fun At The Fair
A3 - Graph - Drowning
A4 - Blank Students - Background Music
B1 - Prats - Inverness
B2 - Prats - Bored
B3 - Flowers - Criminal Waste
B4 - Flowers - After Dark
B5 - Guest Item - (My Baby Does) Good Sculptures

The Prats - "Almost Like a Complete Prat (The Almost Complete Prats 1979-1981)"

What can one add to the legend of the Prats? A flame that burnt so brightly,so briefly, for a few months between 1979 and 80,only to be destroyed by the adolescent urge to be 'sophisticated'. It's for this reason one has discarded the A-side of the 'General Davis' single, with its horrible 'political' awareness, and cheesy moral theme.....yuk! Children shouldn't be corrupted with such shit, gimmie 'Lord of the Flies' over the young conservatives conference any day of the week.
All the hits are here, from 'Inverness' to 'Disco Pope' to that dodgy german one. It's always good to see an unhealthy obsession with german's too, they even had an unrecorded song in their live set called 'Nazi Aircraft'......Dr.Spock (the child psychologist not the Vulcan Science Officer from Star Trek,he was called Mister Spock) would be spinning in his grave.
The mythical Peel Session is included in the download, during which the late Mr Ravenscroft commented, rather prophetically; "If they are this good now, just think how good they're gonna be when they are as old as Siouxsie and the Banshees? The chances are,as often happens, they won't be as good as they are now. But,time will tell."
Well time has told, their voices broke and they became crap. How Ironic that they never managed to release any 1990's pop,as the title of their classic Rough Trade E.P made reference to,in fact they hardly made any 1980's pop.Who wanted to be in one of those 'Poxy Pop Groups' anyways?
To avoid repeating tracks I have left the Earcom 1 version of 'Prats 2' off the 'Almost Complete Prats' collection,to avoid repetition. But if you want that too, whizz over to the Earcom 1,2,and 3 post by clicking here.(coming soon, sorry)

-->
Formed in late 1977 in Edinburgh, the band comprised the Maguire brothers - Dave (drums) and Greg (guitar and singing) Maguire, along with their bigger brother Jeff, who was the group's manager and later bass player. Youngest 12 years old and oldest 15 years old claiming The Slits and Mekons as influences.Stumbled on till as late as 1981

Various Artists - "Television's Over (Crap Punks on TV)" (Die or DIY? Mixtape # 2) 2012

Keeping on the christmas theme, here's another mixtape featuring a legion of crap punks moaning about TV.(check out crap punk mixtape one here!)
Watching television is the dominant pastime for the festive season, and a very popular subject for useless punk groups everywhere.
I'd do one about chocolate too, but i can only find one Danny and the Dressmakers song. Alcohol may be a possibilty, but we got Television, and you're gonna like it!.
It's a perfect word for punk songs, with its four syllable, sentence filling poetry.
The modern Folk connotations of the subject of TV are immense; so as punk is modern folk music, its as important to crap punk as "Hey Nonny Noh" was to trad folk.
Listening to the classic "TV Stars" by The Skids, one is disturbed to realise that the only surviving person mentioned in the lyrics, is one Kenny Dalglish! Even the Skids Guitarist hung himself! Is this song cursed?
On the subject of Ken Nordine, i was listening to an old John Peel Show from 1979 the other day,as you do; and he played a track from what he described as "The worst Record he'd ever heard". It was Ken Nordine's "Colors" album, which is in fact fantastic! As important a figure as Peel was, he certainly had dodgy taste in Reggae, schoolgirls, and what was or wasn't "bad"! Although "Colors" isn't as good as "Word Jazz 1"(1957), from which we introduce this splendid compilation, with the profound "The Vidiot".
So turn off your TV this midwinter Festival time, and listen to why you shouldn't be watching the evil messages transmitted by the new world order. Resist, resiiiiiiist!.........and enjoy resisting.
