Bobby Beausoleil ‎– "Dancing Hearts Afire" (Sagittarius A-Star ‎– SAS #33) 2013

Another Bobby Beausoleil new age space rock epic in the style of a low budget Dave Gilmore on Mogadon.
One can't help but have images in ones mind of Bob, shut away in his prison cell surrounded by mail order electronics, gurning as he makes the strings on his lovingly polished electric guitar singalong to the impecably programmed digital backing track.
It does have all the hallmarks of a retired geezers anti-alzheimers hobby to keep his mind active in old age.A sort of a musical Sudoku.
The difference between this and the retired hippy spunking his pension on music tech, is that Bob knew Chuck Manson, and murdered someone, so people have enough passing interest to buy it,and maybe even listen to half of side A.....but, as mentioned previously, it breaks the ice at parties!?
The music does have a certain artificial sadness, like a soundtrack to a wasted life that had so much potential.Played as he waits to end his existence in Jail.
However, he seems to have led quite a full life as an inmate.Creating Film soundtracks, marrying at least twice, and fathering four children!???.....this ain't like no Jail I've ever heard of!? Only Manson himself has released more albums, although his official children have either commited suicide or are in hiding;and Manson's music is clearly an inferior beast altogether.

Bobby Beausoleil ‎– "Dreamways Of The Mystic" (White Dog Music ) 2005

Bobby Beausoleil's New Age Ambient Prog concept album seems to last as long as he's been in Jail.Like one of those post-Roger Waters Pink Floyd albums, but without the tunes.
If you're an old Hippie dabbling in the pseudo-spiritual with a readily available darkened room at hand, then this will take you on a trip into the wasted life of Bobby B.
Thanks, or otherwise, to progressive prison governors, Robert spends all his spare time....of which I assume there is plenty in the Big House.....making masses of this New Age space rock on his GM synth modules and computers. It's very programmed, rather like the kids in The Manson Family, and the factory synth sounds have a familiar late nineties ring to them.
Remember when you got your first GM synth module, and got excited by the multitude of sound possibilities, only to find out everyone had the same noises, then binned it off for proper synthesisers with knobs on?...well this is before Bobby realised every ex-hippie and his granny were making the same New Age nonsense.
The difference is that this was made by ,if not a member, an associate of The Manson Family, and he's been in the Slammer for nigh on fifty years. So there's a misplaced ingredient of tragic romance in there that make this double CD something more than a couple of coasters for your coffee table. This one may even be left out alongside your John Coltrane CD's as a conversation starter for your wine tasting evening.

Bobby Beausoleil ‎– "Voodoo Shivaya" (The Ajna Offensive ‎– flame101) 2018

Another recording artist resident in a California State Correctional Facility, is former Manson Family member and Murderer, Bobby Beausoleil. Who is the third artist to be featured on this blog who was sentenced to death. This was commuted to life imprisonment, which it seems Bobby is doomed to see out a full term and die in prison. He was accepted for Parole earlier this year, but the State Governor denied this recommendation.....probably due to his Manson connections.
Manson told Beausoleil to kill, friend and fellow Manson associate Gary Hinman, and to make it look as if the crime had been committed by Black revolutionaries, as part of his ideology that a race war was imminent and part of what he called "Helter Skelter".It got weirder,as Beausoleil stabbed Hinman to death while Hinman was repeating a Buddhist chant. After Hinman, was dead Bob wrote the words "Political piggy" on a wall in Hinman's blood.
As the parole board said:
"On January 3, 2019, a panel of commissioners of the California Board of Parole recommended that Beausoleil be freed on parole. In recommending parole, the panel cited Beausoleil's youthful offender status as being in mitigation to the severity of the crime and stated that during his nearly half-century of incarceration he had devoted himself to creativity and pro-social growth, gradually maturing into a person exhibiting compassion and empathy."

The Tate family cited the fact that Beausoleil had been illegally profiting from selling his music while in prison.
So to help Bobby's defence,as I'm sure some of you Manson worshippers would like to, you can download his works here for nothing.
This is Bobby's latest work,a kind of a new age version of The Blues. The kind of music that David Lynch would love to have in his TV Series or Movies,if he hasn't used any of Beausoleil's work already. Our Bobby has a history working on soundtracks for dodgy directors in his past, notably Kenneth Anger's 'Lucifer Rising' before and after he was banged up for life.
Here's Bobby in his harsh prison conditions. It must be Hell!?

Rieg ‎– "Music For Wind" (Mirage ‎/ Agitasjon ‎) 1980

Norwegian Bloke (Geir Låstad) in bedroom with synthesiser makes music about the weather......what else would you expect? One has to do something, apart from commit suicide, in those endless dark winter days.
Yep lots of 'white noise' is utilised to make fake wind effects, y'know, the first thing everyone did when they unpacked their new synthesiser......Hey Mom! Listen to this!
Later, we sampled burps into our new samplers and did the same thing; except this time it was for our very unimpressed girlfriends.......although it was very rare for a male into electronic music to actually have a girlfriend. Then when they did eventually find a partner, the synth went into the bin briefly until they were inevitably also 'binned off'for being boring, then came the come-back CD-r.
Geir also disappeared after 1980 only to mysteriously return in 2008 with a....uh-hum(clears throat)....comeback CD-r!.....Is it possible he got a girlfriend in 1981, then when he was divorced by 2008, vented his male menopause by retreating to his misspent youth in the bedroom and his youthful first love?....I think so.
If you hadn't noticed 'Rieg' is Geir spelt backwards.....clever eh?

"All the Monkeys Aren't in the Zoo,Marylou"(LP)

New Age started off ok, reasonably proficient post -punkers, like a low-budget version of 'The Sound'. Then evolved,or devolved, into Leicester's version of Classix Nouveaux.
As much as I detested all that noo romantic style over-production at the time, I now find it bizarrely attractive.I'll even admit to liking the Gated Snare drum nowadays, even though it appears not on New Age's very over-produced LP. The acoustically dead sound now sounds futuristic in a retro-futuristic kind of way.
I gotta like this 'cus A Flock of Seagulls are unashamedly a very guilty pleasure of mine, and I love The Sound, so add these factors together and you got a pretty fine example of post retro-futurism here!!!!????
Fuck me, I talk a pile of shit sometimes, or is that most of the time!
To complete the Leicester connection, its all released on that bloke from The Disco Zombies' record label, the marvellous Dining Out Records.
They also featured on the excellent leicester compilation: "Where The Hell is Leicester?"

Various Artists - "Where The Hell Is Leicester?" (S+T Records STAB 1,1981)

2 Burnley 44 34 89
3 Derby 44 30 81
4 QPR 44 15 76
5 Wigan 43 15 70
6 Reading 44 12 67
7 Brighton 44 12 66
8 Nottm Forest 44 7 65
As I type this, my Favourite Football team, the magnificent Leicester City FC, are seconds away from claiming the Championship Trophy, following their well deserved promotion to the English Premier League.
As a Football club, Leicester have a lot in common with the DIY music genre, like; Lack of Ambition, working on a minuscule budget, poor skills made up for by honest passion, all played out in front of a small but fanatical audience.
Unlike DIY music, following Leicester City is not a choice,as this is the place of my birth.Choosing to support Man United, would be like buying One Direction singles above a Danny and the Dressmakers cassette, just a no-brainer!?
Especially now that Man United will never win the Premership for at least another twenty years!
YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!......its full time, Bolton 0 - 1 Leicester!
We are the champions.......and as you can see from the handy table above, local rivals Derby are stranded in the play-offs, and the reprehensible Forest are doomed to stay in the Championship for alllll eternity...Pleease!?

(I had better update this!....for anyone who lived in a cave for the last three years.....Leicester defied the odds and actually WON the premier league in 2016!!!!...by ten points only losing three games all season!!!....only now am I able to cope with this information!....i better stop typing before i start crying again!)

Final Premier League Standings 2015/16

Pos Team                    P W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Leicester                 38 23 12 3 68 36 +32 81

5 Southampton          38 18 9 11 59 41 +18 63
6 Manchester United 38 18 9 10 46 34 +12 63

Therefore, I will now dedicate the following days to Bands/artists from this fair city, as a celebration.Starting with the legendary "Where the Hell is Leicester Compilation from 1981.

(Note for Americans: Football = Soccer, and Leicester is pronounced - Less- ster, not, Lie - cest - er!)

At the time of this compilation lp,Terry 'the housewives favourite Radio 2 DJ' Wogan's current running joke was........ ,and it is hilarious, that nobody knew where Leicester was! As with most 'jokes' there is a certain element of truth involved in this, as most people don't really know where it is,and they all think we (yes i am from Leicester, and i know where it is), speak with a Birmingham accent(the brummy accent stops after Coventry at the end of the M69 ,and before Hinckley). Hence the title of this record.
Leicester always had a thriving music scene, producing such greats(*I'm being ironic here) as Family, Kasabian*, Yeah Yeah Noh, Prolapse, Gaye Bikers On Acid, Crazyhead, Volcano The Bear, Bomb Party, Basement Jaxx, Englebert Humperdinck, Scouts of Uzbekistan, and the greatest of the lot, Showaddywaddy. Also represented on this comp are the groops on the edge of it all, including DIY legends, The Deep Freeze Mice; who even feature on the annoyingly trainspottery Nurse With Wound list. But i am mystified at the absence of anything from cassette legends The Midnight Circus ( see previous post of Angst In My Pants)and,or, The Barron Balls!. Not quite in the league of the two Manchester compilations posted earlier, but it has its moments, like the 'Modern Living' track, and Ronnie Slicker and The Banditz, etc.

"Where the Hell is Leicester?"......in the facking Premier League Mate!
