Crespo Schneiderman Duo – "No Complaints" (Blueberry Honey – #18) 2010

Well,Guerilla Toss seemed  to be very popular,so as most,if not ALL groups should split up after their second album.I think i posted three Guerilla Toss albums,so we must make a U-Turn,no complaints, and refer to a split single they did with the magnificently Bats, Egg/Eggs. A member of whom would be the Crespo part of this equally nutty electronic duo, the Crespo Schneiderman...er...duo. So you lucky people who found their feet-a-tapping in 7/4 time to a Guerilla Toss LP,will have to adjust to the floating,if non-existent, rhythms, of this abstract electronica outing, which partners Andy, née Andrew, Crespo, with one of the many members of Sun Burned Hand of the Man, Ron Schneiderman...yes, he???...of who?????....(don't worry about it, we'll get to that)!
Having just watched an obviously very ill, Meat Loaf, slur why he hates performing "I'll do anything for love(but I won't Do That)"......he never did tell us what "That" was,but the answer to his artistic torture being that he felt a pressure from the audience,if that's the right word for such people (either that or 'Morons'?) to be more than perfect....and if he wasn't they would let him know in no uncertain terms. This admission, led me into that musical fantasy world in which I frequently navigate during those blank episodes I display whenever anyone normal is talking to me....my music place. I should imagine it works great during Bad Sex, or whenever one is arse raped by....well...er...Meat Loaf I guess?I can't think of anything more repulsive at such short notice........(pause...I've just gone to my Music Place).
(.....I'm Back......)
No Complaints...yet!?
Just imagine playing this Cd-r to Meat's audience of Moron's in place of "I'll Do Anything For Love....blah blah blah blah!, and tell them that it was Meat's Idea.If he wasn't dead already, they would certainly crucify him,if they could ever hoist his ample frame aloft onto a reinforced cross to hammer in the nails.
Hopefully in my disturbing fantasy, the nostalgia crazed mob would have already chased Jim Steinman down, and burnt him at the stake in a wicker man made of endless histrionic rock dirges made real. Truly a music for people who don't actually like Music..........christ that's ME!?
Oh the joy of watching a middle aged mob ripping up seats and rushing the stage, chanting 'we want MEAT', is a joy to behold, sadly only in my crumbling imagination.
The Crespo Schneiderman Duo,I admit, is not the kind of act one would expect to be playing the Enormo-Dome in upstate Kentucky, in fact,in such places you risk expedited justice and a swift lynching for making such Godless music as this.Remember, these living missing links burnt all their Beatles records, and once you start burning records, it only takes a small leap of consciousness,or unconsciousness as in Red Neck stupidity ,and next they start burning humans.
I dunno if this record is that good as to create a new violent mob of "Proud Boys" to cleanse us of our liberal jew DNA, but I like it.
What pleases me most about this abstract  upside down inside out spontaneous mess, is, it makes me feel comfortably separate from these fuckers whom I have so painstakingly drawn reference to...with out naming names....well...a bit anyway.

Various Artists– "Music From Saharan Cellphones Vol. 1" (Sahel Sounds – SS01) 2010

The sound quality of the 'cell phone',as north Americans call them, mobile's for the more sensible quarters of the planet, hits a new low in the recorded medium. If seen on an oscilloscope, lo-bit digital sound capture has the appearance of a block diagram,or brutalist architecture from the Soviet Era so beloved of Vlad "destroyer of worlds wannabe" Putin. He loves the Soviet era almost as much as he does wearing his built up shoes,he being another short arse dictator with a toxic inferiority complex.
This angular sound quality adds a certain je ne sais pas pourquoi,to the pieces involved, and has one imagining a distant horizon sinking below the most distant dune ,and not a person to be seen, except yourself and a 'cell phone' packed with fuzzy desert music from Mali and neighbouring territories who have likely now succumbed to the latest schoolgirl kidnapping antics of Boko Haram.....why is the Earth so full of complete bastards?
As a Stupid White man, I awkwardly find most African music as strangely uplifting as it is incomprehensible to the soul-less paleface.I am often unmoved by such foreign concepts such as 'Soul' music .This, of course makes me feel uncomfortable, being English and raised under the gray skies of misery that imprisons the British Isles. The only way we can assimilate Soul Music is if its backed by Vince Clarke on synthesiser,or a pure expression of misery....in other words Yazoo and Joy Division....that's real white soul music that is.Well..Maybe not Yazoo, you know what i'm getting at(?)as if you are on this blog it is almost certain you are of caucasian origin, but it certainly is NOT the blue eyed soul of such awfulness as Simply Red or Paul Young, and others who simply copy our brethren of colour....I thought I'd end this blurb on a 'Woke' note before i go back to sleep after re-runs of "Love They Neighbour" on me lickle illegal telly-box. The very same Telly-Box on which i just witnessed a crowd of Hungarian school children Jeering the England football team for taking the Knee'!? Makes you just wanna give up dunnit?
This tape is rather flipping good.....having said that,i don't want more than one.....there are another couple of volumes available that should satisfy any guilt laden Honky very nicely indeed.
WARNING!: severe danger of White man dancing in the area!

Various Artists ‎– "Psych Funk Sa-Re-Ga! Seminar: Aesthetic Expressions Of Psychedelic Funk Music In India 1970-1983" ( World Psychedelic Funk Classics ‎– WPFC 103CD) 2010

Klaus Doldinger, nows there's a fine Indian name for ya?
I doubt that the Indians featured on these Funky Psychedelic Wig-outs were actually all Germans, though it wouldn't surprise me.I have every confidence that our sub-continental brothers and sisters were more than capable of making these Bollywood versions of the 'Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls' soundtrack. Fuzz guitar dueting with haunting Indian Flutes, lead trumpets flirting with a funky drummer beat, like Ennio Morricone backing the Electric Prunes....before they got God forced on them by Axelrod.
Pretty weird stuff indeed, but more than that, it's pretty weird stuff that you can dance to. This is what happens when two cultures clash, for real, and not a single hippy in sight!

Jandek ‎– "Chicago Wednesday" (Corwood Industries ‎– CORWOOD 0804) 2010

A lovely photo of Chicago adorns the cover, or more likely an impression of how Jandek sees Chicago.A wasteland, devoid of human life.
He's got two trendy musicians from the Windy City's burgeoning underground music scene. That bloke from Tortoise/ Bastro/ etc, and a sophisticated Jazzer, who's played with everyone in the city.
Of course the audience love it, they wouldn't dare to be seen doing otherwise.

Jandek ‎– "Bristol Wednesday" (Corwood Industries ‎– CORWOOD 0801) 2010

Another double CD,Recorded live at Cube Cinema in Bristol, England on Wednesday, May 17, 2010.
Here we find the 'Representative' hitting every wrong wrong note on Ornette Coleman's shitlist. We've heard of the search for the thirteenth note in jazz, but this performance isn't even slightly interested in finding the other twelve on a journey outside of musical structure between the gaps of standard notation. The chewed up and stretched cassette tape effect is just a welcome extra.Oh yeah, he sings, groans, whatever you wanna call it, too!
Play this when unwanted guests drop by for supper, and they'll soon find excuses to leave you alone.Could not only clear a pub in thirty seconds,it'd probably make the stupider ones get violent. If that isn't the definition of 'Art' then i dunno what is.

Jandek ‎– "Toronto Sunday" (Corwood Industries ‎– CORWOOD 0803) 2010

Another deserted city (I don't think its Toronto?) adorns the cover of Toronto Sunday, like an average episode of 'The Avengers', not the marvel comics crap, but the cult UK TV series from the sixties Avengers; or like a daytime scene from Chuck Hestons "Omega Man", before the zombies came out at dusk.
Head Zombie, Jandek, treats us to some nifty soundtrack music from his Synthesizer, yes, Synthesizer!? Could easily have been the backing to some awful high budget movie like Transformers 12,or some other box-orifice special FX shit like that. That is until Jandek starts moaning about existence, and the 'Duality of Self'. That would have the drongo's who watch, and even enjoy, utter crap like X-Men or similar, to leave the theatre in droves.
Thee worst genre by far in the world of hollywood features has to be the 'Rock Bio-pic'.....there has honestly NEVER been a good one.Just like there has NEVER been a good film made by, or staring , anyone from the music business. These two artforms are destined never to meet, or be mixed.Rather like oil and water. But ,still, I find it impossible not to look at these virtual snuff movies, killing the culture i love/loved.My eyes are unstoppably drawn to the screen, like i'm secretly breaking a Taboo,as if addicted to the cringeworthy attempts to recreate 'Cool'.Finger poised over the off button in case anyone catches me watching this clueless shit.Really I want to be Ray from the Clash's lamentable 'Rude Boy'.Do I long for Mick Jones to play the art skool 'ard man and warn me that 'He's Watching me'.....my heart says 'yes', but my mind screams 'NOOOOOOOOOOOOO'!!!!!!
Having watched an illegal download (what? Pay? Moi?) of the toe-curlingly bad "Bohemian Rhapsody" through my fingers, I can only imagine what a Jandek bio-pic would be like.It certainly would comfortably qualify as an entrant for the Good/Bad category at least. Johnny Depp starring as the Corwood Representative, speaking with that standard exhaling macho whisper that all the male leads seem to enunciate with.I can never hear a single fucking word they mumble. But hearing 'Depp', in all his contrived gothic splendour, mumble the lyrics to "The Duality of Self" would be worth the entrance fee alone. With Tim Burton directing naturally.....maybe an animated feature, like "The Nightmare Before Xmas"? except this will be the nightmare before the end of culture........Is it just me or is everything just compleatly SHIT!
I therefore challenge thee to name a 'Rock Bio-pic' that doesn't suck balls real bad.

Various ‎Artists – "Koude Golven - A Collection Of Belgian Cold Wave & Punk 1979-1984" ( OnderStroom Records ‎– OS10) 2010

Its as if the Soul and Blues explosion of the sixties never happened. This cold wind of emotionally bankrupt post-punk is totally devoid of any discernable 'Black' influence whatsoever.
This music is so White, it could be a washing powder that promises sheets with the blue whiteness, whiter than white.
The only emotions expressed are bitter hopelessness(if that counts as an emotion?), and the only tears shed are born from miserable self-pity.
In an age where the average male is encouraged to mimick the female emotional spectrum or be labelled a brutal potential rapist whose only emotion is anger, and should never be left alone with children! Where the 'strong silent type' is now thought of as in desperate need of counseling, or even sentenced to decades of psycho-therapy, only to find out he's actually a normal male of the human animal species following a hard wired male behavoural pattern!? No the male is not a malfunctioning woman, he/it's just 'Different' to most ladies.
I notice that all this miserable Cold Wave stuff is made almost exclusively by these same white malfunctioning female males...albeit Malfunctioning Belgian Female males.'Non-Females',the future word for 'Men', will no doubt be the Collins dictionary 'word of the Year' 2019........excuse me a moment while I have a little cry in the corner, and apologize for my ancestors starting all those wars.

Jandek ‎– "Canticle Of Castaway" (Corwood Industries ‎– Corwood 0802) 2010

Wow!....Its Only JANDEK MONDAY again isn't it!?
I've still got that dull ache in my cerebral cortex from the last Jandek Monday!
I love the creepy picture that adorns the cover, like a missing persons mugshot that's been left pinned to a notice board since the early nineties.
This is a return to long, dark and  painful acoustic 'songs', or canticles of a castaway, which i assume is Jandek himself?. Eavesdrop on the reclusive troubadour disembowel himself  for his public; an open wound of a record.

Thee Outside - "Deaf Disco" (Year Zero Records YEAR002) 1997/2010

Did someone say Drum'n'Bass? This gives me the opportunity to plug this D'n'B ignored underground classic from 1997; re-released in 2010 on Year Zero records.Bizarre dark Drum'n'Bass stylings with a splash of Black Humour. Still sounds remarkably fresh, maybe because it isn't yer bog standard Drum'n'Bass format. Fused with Electronica, with a dash of Exotica, found sounds, noise samples, crossed with a drop of only the best in Elevator Muzak. You could even dance to this if you were so inclined and on drugs.Probably the most commercial record on Year Zero! Think Luke Vibert, Aphex Twin , Squarepusher and U-Ziq as musical references.

(This is now the fully restored and remastered version as of 08/10/2020)

Jandek ‎– "Chicago Wednesday" (Corwood Industries ‎– Corwood 0804) 2010

If jandek came from the trendier parts of New York,or even, Chicago. He would be hailed as an improv noise genius, like Arto Lindsey, or Lee renaldo, among many others. In fact he was doing this, even less commercially, before they'd even played their first gig.
Jandek's live appearances, as 'The Corwood Representative" , are probably the most accessible and conventional stuff in the Corwood oeuvre. A sort of No Wave for the 21st century, reminding one strongly of a funkier DNA, a more consistent Golden Palomino’s or a jazzier Sonic Youth.
Basically, its Jandek with guitar, backed by very capable improv-savvy musicians, and it works.
