Various Artists – "Eat The Rich : A Benefit Tape For War On Want" (Anal Probe – 003) 1984

There's a certain Nazi's care about the impoverished kinda of vibe going down here.
I'm certain there was little or no funds raised from this lo-fi mish mash of dark
bedsit land dwelling noise-niks. Its like those geezers who prowl the streets on
'Children In Need' Day with a Bucket collecting donations, then pop down the pub to
spend the 'winnings'; but i have strong reservations whether this so-called benefit
'War tape for 'War on Want'raised enough for half a lager, never mind helping Kids
with Cancer. Its probably a not so clever attempt to make the Industrial artists
on here look more
acceptable to decent society. Just what War On Want need is a
Charity record on 'Anal Probe' records...especially on Children In Need Night?
What is acceptable to these ears,is the cotton wool in the ears muffled sound quality
so beloved in the offices of 'Die or DIY?'.The ferric Oxide coated playback heads
of your cassette player will love you for it. Especially enhancing the terrible UK82
contributions from Society's Victims, making it even crapper than it was in 1984.
There's a few pretty ordinary but dull and dampened industrial droning soundscapes
that please the ear, even with the ear plugs out, and the traditional appearance
of BBC sound Effects volume 2,"Marching Soldiers(120bpm)"...yes the exact same one that was
used on "Holidays In The Sun".Only outscored by " Breaking Glass",also on volume 2.
A favourite for DIY Industrial acts everywhere.
UnKommuniti had some chap from geek miesters Stereo Lab as a member,if you're
interested, which you're probably not.Just filling up the space with meaningless
factoids. Mass In Black sounded quite good anyway.
Finishing on a comforting note:
We will get our chance to Eat The Rich soon enough, when they are dragged out of their Bunkers
by their own security staff, and turned over, Alive, to the baying mob.
ENJOY!

Ad Nauseam – "Demo" (Manic Tapes – Manic L.0.3) 1984

Ad Nauseam, from Portsmouth(keep that quiet!),were one of those generic UK82 hardcore bands who wanted to be Discharge, but were four years too late,so now they had to lessen their ambitions by just wanting to be the Exploited, mohawks and simplistic politics included.
To their credit, some attempt has been made since their earlier recordings, to 'progress' in some way.
There'a mixture of Hardcore styles on display here,if its possible to register any discernible difference whatsoever between the lot of 'em, apart from the fact that some of 'em play it better than the others.... maybe?
This tape has sections of Yobbed-up US Hardcore,a bit of D-Beat,lots of UK82 street Oi and even a melodious track (i suspect the beginning of track 2 was nicked from Fripp and Eno is it not? Closet sophisticates or wot?).All fronted by a potty-mouthed 'Wattie' clone.
Fripp,Eno and Wattie.....still waiting for that one.
As much as I enjoy the music(?),for want of a better word, I find the lifestyle these leather clad hooligans lead,a tad nauseating, hence the name, claustrophobic, and more than a tad depressing. If i wanted to join the army or a cult there are better options, mainly a cult with a higher ratio of girls to boys for a start. Is there a tastefully dressed hardcore punk sex cult out there? The Davidians of Waco had a suitable PA system,it just needed some decent music to be played over it rather than just David "I'm Jesus me honest" Koresh. The group could have played as the building burned down, and out-done G.G. Allin, for one night only.
I would hazard a guess that the various members of Ad Nauseam, still dress like that, with receding mohawk hair cuts.....quite like "Wattie" himself, who, several heart attacks later is still the epitome of UK82 hardcore Punk from the British Isles. Now roundly exported to all corners of the known planet
That's entertainment?

Ad Nauseam – "Mass Murder Tape" (Retaliation Records – Fight Box 7) 1982

Altogether now......
"Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher
Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher Fatcher"

One has to admire the barely articulated rage of the British working class youth back in 1982,as un-articulated by Portsmouth located UK82 Hardcore band 'Ad Nauseam',with their rather catchy underground 'Hit' dedicated to the dubious achievements of a dead Prime Minister, namely the right honorable, former member for Finchley, Margaret Thatcher.....contracted for poetic reasons to just "Fatcher";a pronunciation which helps the tongue twisting nature of expectorating the "Th" sound, at 70 miles per hour several hundred times in the sing-a-long chorus of track number One.
Yer average Sex Pistols fan had to choose which side they were on when their bestest favourite Punk Rock group split up. Go with John Lydon and invent Post-Punk, or go in the shouty leather jacketed direction of the Sid Clone for the rest of their natural lives.
I can quite comfortably say that Ad Nauseam went in the direction of the latter. Although, I must commend the Sid clone on dumping Sidney's total lack of any moral standpoint whatsoever.I don't think Sid gave a shit about war or poverty, but his clones did, rather surprisingly. The G.G. Allin direction was, thankfully, only followed by a small minority of morons......but, one has to say,if you're gonna embrace the cruel inevitabilites of  the Rock'n'Roll dead end in all it's Nihilistic glory and celebrated stupidity, then G.G. and Sid played the role to the very last ransom note letter.
When the Punk Rock Super Nova burnt out, collapsed under its own gravity and left a super-massive black hole to fill;just this side of the event horizon were thousands of inarticulate shouty groups like Ad Nauseam decked out in denim and levver ,but, strangely, with the imported moral mindset of politico-punk sophisticates,Sham 69(?).
Its actually all quite funny stuff ,yet i'm still dumbfounded as to how it all came down to this? Rock'n'Roll's lowest common denominator.

A3 Fuck I Ain't Bovered
A4 What A State
A5 Don't Vote

Anthrax ‎– "Demo Tape" (Self-released cassette) 1982

From what doth an Anarcho-Punk band maketh? Asked one of Shakespeare's rival poets back in 1982.
Anthrax........naaaaaah not that awful speed metal nonsense Anthrax from the United States of pointlessness....Anthrax from Kent you Kant!
Well,as I was about to say before I rudely interrupted myself pretending someone actually reads this drivel, or cares,....take 3.....Anthrax,were often lumped in with the Anarcho-Punk morass, but musically they had far more in common with the 'Oi' bands,or UK82's upteenth wave punk. Most crass-alikes couldn't achieve that sub-metal sound necessary to be the Exploited,so they just played open chords and painted banners, whereas Anthrax could actually play proper Punk Rock, like a yobbish Rudimentary Peni but without the gloomy imagery.
Anthrax had songs about Vivisection,anti-war,and anti capitalism;plus they had home made banners to be a backdrop at gigs....usually with anarcho-punk bands. They also had a single out on Crass Records, so therefore they were gleefully accepted as Anarcho's.
No joke, but I had an auntie whose surname was Waugh....Auntie Waugh!? If she was hip, she could have been in The Poison Girls,or on Penis Envy.
Anthrax, however, managed to write and record one of the absolute classic singles from the 'third' wave of UK Punk in "They've got it all wrong",demo version included here.Released on Small Wonder to add to the legend.
They did the accepted thing in 1982, and recorded a Demo, knowing no-one would release it, and released it themselves. Copied onto top quality Ross cassettes, remeber them?....no?... me neither, and decorated with a photo of Gruinard Island where the British Government tested chemical weapons in World war Two,one of which was....you guessed it,or you gassed it, Anthrax.
'twas finally decontaminated in 1990. Unlike Anthrax ,the Uk punk band, who reformed in the 21st century and made a new album!?.....a big no-no that, contaminating the legend,no to mention looking like a bunch of punk dad's at a punk Darby and Joan club, otherwise known as the annual Rebellion Festival in Blackpool.
