Scraping, abrasive,droning,ambiance,not unlike a field recording of a shipyard; following the construction of a huge container ship,from its inception, through its launch, to its demise.As if torpedoed by a phantom world war one U-boat, slowly breaking its back,and sinking below the black waves of a dead sea.Laden with a cargo of container, upon container, of Remington Fuzz away's, Ronco Pop-a-Matics,and Foot spa's.
If only a friendly U-Boat of natural justice would come and save us from this earth-rape! Come friendly torpedoes (or tor-paedoes,for we could use politician child abusers and strap explosives to their crotches?) and Sink these evil corporations; id this our only Hope!
This tape would be a great soundtrack to this saliva inducing fantasy.Maybe use War Criminal, and rumored Sex-Pest, Tony Blair,as the first Tor-paedo?Better still,hows about packing Royal Rapist, Prince Andy's fat sweaty guts with Semtex, and launching him at the Shitehouse?.....Mmmmm sweet dreams tonight!?

In 1989 everyone, and I mean Everyone, in the united kingdom were off their faces on MDMA dancing like idiots in farmers fields around the M25 to Acid House and its derivatives. Previously decent pop groups ,had Brian Jones(another drug fueled fool)  haircuts,carried tambourines or maraca's,wore stripy tops, and had to be seen 'dancing'! 
This shit, infected Industrial culture too, with Psychic TV, Nurse With Wound,Coil,and Former Cabaret Voltaire members, making 'Rave' records!......never before has there been such an all encompassing moment where all creativity was flushed down the toilet in a mass compliance to a safe passive (but dancing) state. Overnight, Football hooligans became loved up hippies ,subversives became 'Mad for it' freaky dancers,and everyone was happy to do fuck all except have 'a good time'! Kind of a Stepford's Generation,in an anti-rennaissance!
As usual, this didn't happen in the USA,so we still had good groups,and they still made decent Industrial music.
Although this Illusion of Safety release is verging on the Ambient,there is a distinct lack of that nation pacifying, and probably Mossad/CIA supplied, awful drug, Ecsta-fucking-sy! 
Good stuff for the 'Chill Out' area of these shit Chavvy Raves though.
There's even a very topical Paedophile tune with "You Stop It"; very now, with the British political elite squirming,desperately trying to bury the latest inquiry attempt into systematic child abuse among UK politicians.......and we wonder why they consistently vote to wage America/Israels wars for them? Its Mossad/CIA etc again, with a truck load of incriminating data from paedo-honey traps.Wouldn't you do anything they asked if they could portray you as a kiddie-fiddler?

The live sound of IOS,complete with sparse applause,and alternate versions of all their non-hits to date. I assume that the Altitude in the title refers to the height above sea level that these concerts took place at ,rather than the 'lofty' attitude of the performers.
There is a rare Throbbing Gristle cover (Discipline) aired here also. Revealing influences is usually the only consequence of covering other groups material. Although it is a fine version one might add.

In the 1980's we had an Illusion of Safety,with each of us having several nuclear warheads aimed at us 24/7. In the 21st century it's the Illusion of Fear,with each of us having several false flag attacks aimed at us,24/7, from an out of control, controlled media.Controlled by an out of control shadow government,run by the usual suspects.
This Illusion of Safety (the US Industrial act,not the nuclear deterrent), makes music that sounds like a deep fried Cable TV remote control, skipping through the hundreds of propaganda channels that we absorb voluntarily(in fact we positively desire this),every day;to sustain this illusion of fear that keeps the world ticking over. Its just as relevant today as it was thirty years ago.Its about Violence and Geography;that and the 'noble lie' advocated by Straussian political theory.

Illusion Of Safety ‎– "Ecstatic Crisis" (Complacency Productions ‎– CPC-3) 1986

American Industrial became fully flowered by the mid to late eighties, and stuck pretty firmly to the 'Old school' Throbbing Gristle template from over half a decade earlier. While the UK/European version was far nastier and unbearably Noise orientated. Personally I prefer the spacier,and more varied American template,if lacking the anger and attitude of the European Power Electronics genre.
Illusion of Safety are ,along with Women of the SS, my personal favourite of this paticular pigeon hole.
Cut'n'paste time for the boring factual bit:

"Since 1983 Illusion Of Safety has been the ongoing project of Daniel Burke, working alone and with various collaborators. IOS' work has been called dark ambient, post-industrial, electro-acoustic, noise, sound collage, improvisation, and power electronics, but they are unwilling to limit their work to any given style or method. The sonic character and affective substance of the music will often shift abruptly within each recording and live performance."

"The work activates modes of perception to facilitate direct access to the psyche, emotions, and the infinite in order to address the necessity of balance and the nature of dichotomy."

Nonetheless, a surprisingly excellent collection of always interesting and constantly changing experimental late 20th century composition.
