Six Minute War - "Live in Cassandra, London" (Finger in the Dike HOLE 001, Dutch C-60 Cassette) 1980

After all that bleating from the hive minds of the anarcho-punk throng of Bullshit Detector volumes 1 to 3, we close this sorry episode with the best Anarcho punk band(even though they weren't anarchists!?);...with this ultra beyond lo-fi live cassette recording of non-anarchist anarcho-punk prime movers Six Minute War, who prided themselves on their DIY ethics(DIY not EMI was their slogan),and didn't like Crass.....which is something to be applauded. I also apologise to the band for referring to them as "Anarcho", 'cus as stated in their lyrics, they weren't Anarchist apologists, but preferred the "Social Disorder" form of personal freedom. I must agree with that, 'cus who wants Steve Ignorant telling you what to do under the black flag of...... (said in a girly voice with a hint of sneery sarcasm)....'anarchy'.

Please note great underwater version of 'Silver Machine'
They shared this cassette with a crap band called Pitfall.....couldn't be arsed to transfer that side of the tape...virtually unlistenable.

Concrete - "Ghoulish Practices" (Concrete Productions CON001) 1981

Time to get back to some bona-fide UK DIY after digressing to the dark side of DIY with the awfulness of Anarcho-Punk.How about some classic DIY industrial Funk-up from Concrete, featuring Fallout and future 400 Blows member, Rob Taylor.
There's definitely some proto-blows elements on this ep. The dysfunctional funk, the wailing trumpets, real white 'urban' music for white urban kids.

Fallout - "Home Killed Meat" (Fallout Records F3 LP1) 1983

Then of course we all know that Half of Six Minute War became Fallout in 1981? Obviously the more creative members left,(one went to join Industrial Funsters 400 Blows!?), so Fallout returned to the Six Minute War sound of the earlier ep's. Though this album is definitely more heavier and intense. A real dirty guitar sound helps this LP stand out from the legions of Anarcho-punk dross of the early eighties. The fact that they weren't anarchists makes this record immediately more relevant. Nothing depresses me more than a bunch of middle class psuedo-crusties with dreadlocks, dressed in varying shades of washed out black clothing, droning on about fucking Anarchy!.....this isn't the case with Fallout or Six Minute War. I think I even agree with most of the sixth form politics included within these plastic grooves, unlike all those droves of Crass clones;I'd have banned those bastards from the Roxy too!

Fallout - "Salami Tactics E.P." - (Fallout Records F2) 1982

Recorded Between 12am + 8am 30th sept 1982, At Ark studio Kingston by Charlie and Rob, formerly of the DIY punk legends: Six Minute War
As you may know I like Six Minute War and Fallout's attitude to the Anarcho-Punk bores like .....Crass,and the legions of the washed out black clothing throng what followed and copied everything they did. It gives me a headache just thinking about 'em.......(groan!)
But this is another great release from Fallout(check album here), featuring more versions of the same melody, guitar sounds that sound like a bucket of gravel in an oil drum, and even a bass line ripped directly off of Joy Division('Fly The Flag'), which is a hearty recommendation in itself.
Again totally self-released and created( although due to inflation yu had to shell out a hefty 90p to own this in 1982)......and they stayed up all night to record it,and probably went to work afterwards;now that's rock and roll....isn't it?

Fallout - " Fallout E.P." (Self-Released 7" vinyl) 1981

After half of Six Minute War fell out (geddit?) with the others, and split for Concrete and 400 Blows, the remaining members, Rob and Charlie, hammered on in the same vein as early Six Minute War,and called themselves, appropriately,Fallout . This is their first release, and is indistinguishable from their former groups records........therfore its great! And, in the great DIY punk tradition ,you can now save yourself 75p and download it here for free.

You can get a rare live performance of Fallout at the London Music Collective in jan 1983 at Kill Your Pet Puppy

Six Minute War - "Slightly Longer Songs EP" (Six Minute War Records SMW003) 1981

Six Minute War go post punk!.....the use of a Tr808, and effects are experienced.Flanging ,phasing and a touch of reverb, punctuate the ranting as our 'fav Anarcho-Punks' reach for the future. Sounds awful doesn't it?...but it ain't,it good,it very good. The usual DIY'isms pervade, with the cheap bi-colour printing, white label, and the 75p price tag. I bought these ep's as an after-thought to a primary purchase,'cus they were so cheap; an excellent promotional tool as used by capitalists everywhere......this is how they afforded a TR808 drum box!?
And whats wrong with that?

Six Minute War - "75p EP" (Six Minute War Records, SMW 001) 1980

For me Six Minute War were just about the only trad punk group worth bothering with in 1980. Strictly DIY, suitably nihilistic politics, and no-nonsense basic tunes that lasted less than two minutes. Their self produced records(mostly recorded at the legendary Street Level studio) were works of art, coming with great photocopied sleeves, with covers adorned with admirably low price tags, such as this one...75p.
Their attitude to the groups bracketed with them, in the unfortunately monikered 'Anarcho-Punk' shoebox, is nicely summed up in the lyrics to "Camera" from this very EP:

".........So you want anarchy, anarchy's your way, but who in the long run will have to pay. you like to call it freedom to do what you want, freedom to shoot a bloke if you think - wrong. Anarchy - freedom? anarchy's a farce. you don't pay for anarchy it's the working class. destroy the power of wealth and replace it with strength, power for the strong instead of the rich. social disorder, no rules to be broken, when you've got social disorder, life ain’t such a burden..."
