The only group/artist that gets anywhere near being
genuinely frightening, for me, is Coil. And that is the direction that
Sigillum S tries to take on this eponymous cassette from 1986. They've
obviously heard the aforementioned Coil, and have taken a lot of that
sound on-board.....and why not?
Its the Gothic end of the Industrial genre that is explored here, and
with some success. Though for me I prefer the rougher hewn Industrial
musick, to this well made, more structured variety.
As far as Italian Industrial musick is concerned, I'd choose the noisier
end of the market, MB and Mauthausen Orchestra; but this definitely
has its good points. As an anti-religion fanatic, I find the Ritualistic
nature of some of this stuff annoying; but it does a fine job in
unsettling Christians and the other cults of this planet, so it gets a
big thumbs up from Jonny Zchivago(whoops! I just referred to myself in
the third person, please accept my humble apology's).

More Italian Gothic Ritual Industria on thee Order Ov Wolves label(even
though it says Open Wound on the label!?)
For fans of the Coil end of the Industrial spectrum, emphasis on the
creepy "satanic" ritual musick side of things, rather than the harsh
noise end.
Imagine a soundtrack for "The Evil Dead" set in a Monastery, and you
won't be far off what we have on this cassette.
These chaps are far too popular these days! They've even collaborated
with Bill Laswell for fucks sake!....that almost disqualifies them from
DIY's Remit!
But we'll let them off.

This is more like it, a bit rough round the edges, and more noisy.Like a
spooky Monastery, yes, but as it was being burnt down by Henry the
eighth's goon squad. Tribal sounding first generation Digital Drum
Machines pound out a slave ship rhythm, taking us relentlessly to the
witch trials, while the boys fill the spaces with unsettling electronic
noises, and Swans-esque vocals. All with that X-factor of Live
performance, replacing the sterile control of the studio.Good stuff
indeed, but very mid eighties sounding; it's those good awful digital
drum machines!
Question : Would this sound half as menacing if we turned the echo
machine off? (I think not.)

I always like a record with unpronounceable track titles, and this is no
exception. A studio version of the sound found on the "Live at Helter
Skelter" cassette.
Plenty of dull thudding drums, swirling reverbed groaning, and dark
ambient electronics.
Those Italians may have five reverse gears in their Tanks, but they can
definitely advance on the Industrial battlefield.
I actually like Sigillum S !?
