Various ‎– "Flowmotion(An Album of Contemporary Electronic Music)" (ICR ‎– ICR 003) 1982

Well, as this compilation is over 35 years old, it can no longer claim to be an album of Contemporary anything, but it does have some electronic music on it ,by some of the bigger names of the UK's electronic underground of the early eighties. And I note that none of this lot have yet to retire.
A few of these tracks one would hesitate at calling them strictly 'Electronic'.Experimental pop with incidental electronics is good enough for Eyeless In Gaza, and Those Little Aliens hark back to the time when magnetic Tape manipulation was called 'Electronic' Music.I suppose anything made with machines that one plugs into the mains is technically 'Electronic' so there you are!?

Tracklist:

A1 –Chris & Cosey-Devil God
A2 –Those Little Aliens-Ismalia
A3 –Eyeless In Gaza-Dusky Ruth
A4 –Eyeless In Gaza-Through Eastfields
A5 –David Jackman-Do The Dog

A7 –The Legendary Pink Dots-Hanging Gardens

Legendary Pink Döts ‎– "Basilisk" (Third Mind Records ‎– TMT 08) 1983

Music-wise, I quiet like this Coil-Lite, dark fairground synth-pop; with a Syd Barret  tribute act singing on top, instead of a cherry. The lyrics are reasonably interesting, but the singer gets on my tits, so the old adage, 'its the Singer NOT the Song' comes into the foreground....or the fairground?
As LPD tapes go, this is easily the best one I've heard.Like some kind of sinister casiotone circus music......but who wants to go to a circus?

Tracklist:

Legendary Pink Dots ‎– "Premonition" (Flowmotion ‎– FMC09) 1982

I would gladly class these Anglo-Dutch neo-psychedelic Syd Barrets on casio's as Dutch; they are based there after-all?
I never understood why this lot were always on Industrial compilations with their home organ versions of a lost album from a certain acid casualty that was formerly in the Pink Floyd. Their tunes are not unlike a bontempi translation of the songs that knob who takes an acoustic guitar to a party sings, insisting on showing everyone how fucking clever he is while everyone sits in awkward pain, thinking of excuses to leave.
That's how I feel when I listen to a LPD cassette.
They are ,however, legendary indeed, as prolific members of the DIY cassette underground at the turn of the eighties, and therefore earns respect.
They do indeed have a large and loyal fanbase, and can still be seen today touring?!
This ,I have to say, is one of their less painful albums.....gotta go now,I left a chicken in the oven!

4 Amphitheatre
5 Voices

Various Artists - "The Wonderful World Of Glass(volume One)" (Glass Records ‎– GLASS 010) 1981

The primary reason for including a Glass records compilation on this site,is the inclusion of another lost Lemon Kittens track. The less strange, but beaty, “What the Cat Brought In”; not for completists only.
What else is on this then, you ask.......or ,more likely, probably not?

Nuneaton's Eyeless In Gaza soundalikes,Bron Area are on here, and even the two halves of yer actual, Nuneaton's own, Eyeless In Gaza dip into their vast reservoir of tracks for us.

Shit, I didn't see the Legendary Pink Dots! I usually slag these geezers off, but I'm fucked off writing about a band I don't particularly like. I hear nothing here to change my entrenched position.

Great tracks by, it's the Nuneaton connection again, Kevin Harrison. Not from Nuneaton are Schleimer K, Joy Div copyist lightweights English Subtitles, and probably many more?

I suppose we may get some sulking Nirvana bores salivating over the Marine Girls track, as Cobain expressed a liking for the twee indie act before blowing his brains out. Sad.....no not the suicide.....the Nirvana nerds!

Tracklist:

A1 Schleimer K - She's Gone

A2 Bron Area - You Would Be Amazed

A3 Ciaran Harte - Johnny Doesn't Need Much

A4 Legendary Pink Dots - The Defeated

A5 Marine Girls - Flying Over Russia

A6 Peter Becker - During Half Sleep

A7 Kevin Harrison - Blinded By Hypnotism

A8 Lemon Kittens - What The Cat Brought In

B1 Where's Lisse? - Red Light

B3 English Subtitles - Water

B4 Martyn Bates - Nascent Fragrance Of Skin

B5 3 Way Dance - Praise The Flames

B6 No More - Hypnotised

Various ‎– "Three Minute Symphony" (X Tract ‎– XX002) 1984

Classic compilation that skirts in and around the edge of the Industrial scene of 1984,the underground equivalent of 'Pillows and Prayers' but for weirdo's instead of foppish fringe wearing students.
Being a Sounds reader since the halcyon days of Punk Rock, Sounds contributor and compiler of this album, Dave Henderson, was writing increasingly about the burgeoning underground of there new music of 1984. Nowhere else could you read about such acts as Konstuktivists or Nurse with Wound; and of course, in these pre-internet days, obtaining these records was a stiff task, especially if you lived outside of London. This made these disc's and tapes even more desirable, and the moment one actually obtained one became an almost religious exercise. Slipping the artefact out of its sleeve and playing the messages contained within, which invariably would lead to friends, parents, and neighbours believing that you were either mad or insane, or a potential threat to their community as a whole.
Anything that is a threat to normality is naturally attractive to anyone with their eyes firmly open to this sham we call Civilisation; so that fact put these artists on the front line of consciousness change.
The works within this double album's grooves, span a virtual Who's Who of the underground in 1984, even the granddaddy of Industrial , Conrad Schnitzler himself, who contributes the title track, appears.
It also has probably my favourite German group, Die Tödliche Doris, amongst many other international favourites.
UK Diy is represented well, with Philip Johnson, Colin Potter (with an actual picture on the cover of the man himself!) and David Jackman, can't go wrong there?
The only groan factor was the inclusion of The Legendary Pink Dots, who, as many of you may know, are not one of my favourite groups; but!.....even their track is pretty good, despite that Edward K bloke failing to resist contributing some of his god awful warblings half way through it!
Apart from that sole criticism, this is pretty perfect! (mmm(thinks), doesn't that mean its NOT perfect?......but isn't perfection in itself, imperfection? Without imperfection we wouldn't recognise perfection, therefore by definition, perfection is imperfection is perfection.9999999 recurring?).

The Legendary Pink Dots - "The Chemical Playschool 1 & 2" (Mirrordot 02/03) 1981

After being labelled a Nazi by some irate Legendary Pink Dots fan, I shouldn't post anymore of their early cassettes. But, I will, despite my better judgement!
The "Isn't everything nice Brain Police" will not alter my raison d'etre. When will the 90%er's of this planet realise that there is room for criticism, and that it isn't mandatory for you to agree with it????
No, I don't like The Legendary Pink Dots, their Syd Barret meets the Casiotone cleverness gets on my tits.....but, they fit the brief for this blog,as they were very active DIY'ers, and therefore gain my respect as human beings; so here is their second self-released cassette, which came as two c-60's full of tunes too numerous to list below(apparently the track listing changed with every individual cassette too),and i can't be arsed to type all the tracks......they will appear in the download anyway.
If that's musical fascism then you can Fuck yourself!

The Legendary Pink Dots - " Kleine Krieg " (Mirrordot Records MD04) 1981

This is the original Mirrordot release. Limited edition of 120 copies.
With hand-decorated and hand-written labels on cassette.
You don't get any more DIY than this, very homemade underground synth-pop. A cross between John Shuttleworth and Syd Barrett, not really my cup of tea, but they command a voracious cult following.
They always got lumped on various Industrial compilations in the eighties, can't see the connection myself, always one to skip over in my opinion, closer to the Pet Shop Boys than TG. Although one could never take time to study the lyrics, they sound irritatingly 'Clever,Clever', in the mode of Morrissey and that bloke in the awful Beautiful South.
But,one must respect their stickability, and adherence to their ideals.
Due to a lukewarm reception in the UK they decamped to live in the Netherlands, where they received a positive response; that's continental Europe for you.

The Legendary Pink Dots ‎–"Prayer For Aradia" (Bain Total – K 24) 1982

These monkeys are usually found in the 'Industrial' section of your now defunct record emporium. As far as I can see it has nothing in common with the Industrial ilk, or industrial Elk for that matter, whatsoever!?!
I previously posted The Legendary Pink Dots cassettes' "Chemical Playschool" and "Kleine Krieg" , and outrageously expressed a mild dislike for said group.
This triggered a stream of anti-me comments, labelling me a fascist, amongst other pleasantries. So, not one to bow down to abuse, I must reiterate again that in my 'OPINION',.... TLPD should be lumped in with kak like Soft Cell and Blancmange (admittedly these two groups had their moments, but their please like me attitudes make me wanna puke!).
Yes, lots of self-consciously clever lyrics, borderline melodic plinky plonky synths, and an irritating singer to boot.
But, these chaps have a large following, and many of them are credible, intelligent people; so what does that say about me?!
Fuck that, I just can't stand TLPD! Whats wrong with that? I still admire them for what they did, and still do to this day. And here's another early cassette from the days before corporate and government control took hold of us all by stealth.
You don't know it yet,but they have!

The Legendary Pink Dots and Attrition - "The Terminal Kaleidoscope" (Ding Dong Records DDC 011) 1985

Christ, I can't stand TLPD's; I've slagged them down before and got verbally attacked in the comments section by irrate LPD's "fans". Believe me they are just as irritating, and clever-clever as always on this shared tape. This my opinion,on my blog, so I reserve the right to have it, you LPD's weirdo's out there. Definitely, "up" there along side The Deep freeze Mice, and The Cardiacs, in the getting on my tits stakes, but, still score highly in the DIY league table.Grudging respect is due. Although,It does sound like an after the pub attempt to be The Pet Shop Boys. Attrition, on the other hand, are really quite good. Classic, cold, dark electronic Industrial-lite, to counter the almost sunshine Synth-pop Industria of the companion side. Another fine group from sunny Coventry.(check out the "Sent From Coventry" compilation) Recorded live during the Terminal Kaleidoscope Tour from 29/03 - 15/04 1985 in Holland and in Switzerland.
