Various Artists – "Real Time 3 - December 1982" (Unlikely Records) 1982

Trendy Turtles were definitely going for that elusive Cherry Red contract weren't they? Only rarely does one find Twee Indie Pop arse to elbow with a rowdy Oi groop, especially as both forms of music are long dead. The Oi Polloi don't sound very likely to harbor any signs of being women trapped in a Skinheads' body, but then again Gender politics were thankfully absent from the minds of the average Teenager,or Yobbo in those 'simpler' times around Christmas 1982. Gender Dysphoria was just a technical phrase in a psychologists handbook. Nowadays, one would rule out the existence of a Trans Oi combo at one's peril....and get shunned by society as a reward. I actually do have a Hardcore record by a Trans hardcore Punk band called G.L.O.S.S. which is actually rather marvelous. So come on you gender fuck-ups, get that Trans Skinhead Oi band going and I might understand you a bit more.
I don't envy kids these days at all....shit music...and shit post truth information overload.
Dunno how I got onto this subject, just thought it amusing to imagine The Oi Polloi or even better the 4-Skins as transexuals........should I take the knee now or something?,,,,wot a fuck UP!
Which is not what this very good indeed C-90 cassette compilation appears to be.
We're on the cusp of Indie here it seems, with the only remnants of Punk being the unfashionably stupid comprehensive school politics of the Oi Polloi....luckily I love the sound of "stupid".
There's always Lurch after all, and a bag full of time specific Power Pop and Indie Tweeness.

Anthrax ‎– "Demo Tape" (Self-released cassette) 1982

From what doth an Anarcho-Punk band maketh? Asked one of Shakespeare's rival poets back in 1982.
Anthrax........naaaaaah not that awful speed metal nonsense Anthrax from the United States of pointlessness....Anthrax from Kent you Kant!
Well,as I was about to say before I rudely interrupted myself pretending someone actually reads this drivel, or cares,....take 3.....Anthrax,were often lumped in with the Anarcho-Punk morass, but musically they had far more in common with the 'Oi' bands,or UK82's upteenth wave punk. Most crass-alikes couldn't achieve that sub-metal sound necessary to be the Exploited,so they just played open chords and painted banners, whereas Anthrax could actually play proper Punk Rock, like a yobbish Rudimentary Peni but without the gloomy imagery.
Anthrax had songs about Vivisection,anti-war,and anti capitalism;plus they had home made banners to be a backdrop at gigs....usually with anarcho-punk bands. They also had a single out on Crass Records, so therefore they were gleefully accepted as Anarcho's.
No joke, but I had an auntie whose surname was Waugh....Auntie Waugh!? If she was hip, she could have been in The Poison Girls,or on Penis Envy.
Anthrax, however, managed to write and record one of the absolute classic singles from the 'third' wave of UK Punk in "They've got it all wrong",demo version included here.Released on Small Wonder to add to the legend.
They did the accepted thing in 1982, and recorded a Demo, knowing no-one would release it, and released it themselves. Copied onto top quality Ross cassettes, remeber them?....no?... me neither, and decorated with a photo of Gruinard Island where the British Government tested chemical weapons in World war Two,one of which was....you guessed it,or you gassed it, Anthrax.
'twas finally decontaminated in 1990. Unlike Anthrax ,the Uk punk band, who reformed in the 21st century and made a new album!?.....a big no-no that, contaminating the legend,no to mention looking like a bunch of punk dad's at a punk Darby and Joan club, otherwise known as the annual Rebellion Festival in Blackpool.

2 Capitalism Is Cannibalism
3 Exploitation
4 Vivisection

Various Artists ‎– "On The Street" (Sane Records ‎– SANE 003) 1984

Sane Records followed up their 'Electropop' compilation of undiscovered uk synthbands, with, believe it or not, a 'Punk'compilation of those horrible groups that called themselve 'Punx' in 1984 UK.They also did a NWOBHM comp too....I don't think I could survive listening to that one as well as this!!??
By this time in the radioactive decay scale equivalent of generic music lifespan, 'Punk' was about 6 years past its Half-Life. What was tired and irritating by the end of 1978,had started to lose its intelligence, and what we were left with was the rotting seeds of 'Oi' and 'UK82', championed by Gary Bushell; like the Angelic Upstarts and Cockney Rejects. The real intelligence had departed for fresher fields by 1979, leaving just the yob element to flesh out the Daily Mirrors desciption of 'Punk' Rock exactly.
Legions of uniformed, agressive  young men on a quest to repress each other down to the lowest possible common denominator. This album could have been made by one single group, not 14!!!? Every track follows exactly the same formula, like a male only club. This had already happened in the USA, where this genre had become a macho male club on a quest to get faster and faster, just for the sake of 'Speed' because that's 'Punk' innit? Depressing stuff...for all the wrong reasons.
Having said that, i sort of enjoyed this, now thats it resides strictly in the vintage section of the rock'n'roll jumble sale. Some of the Guitar sounds are enviably dirty, but the lyrics are toe curlingly bad. Especially shit about Punx'n'Skinz, or Notts Punx!!? Best not to listen too closely, and just let the basic-ness tug at your funny bone.

The Sinyx ‎– "Britain Is A Mausoleum" (Grand Theft Audio ‎– GTA 065) 2005

After the kids had read all the Tabloids in 1976/7, some of the less intelligent ones absorbed the standard line and became Yobs with guitars, with an agressive thug on shouty vocals. The ones who were just making up the numbers with nothing special about them whatsoever.
Southend's Sinyx were a great example of this plague upon our shores.
They were around for around six years from 79-85, managed one ep, and an appearance on 'Bullshit Detector 1' ,despite having very little of the Anarcho-Punk about them. The hooligan lead singer evolved into a standard Skinhead, as befittin the sad decent of street punk into the new standarised territiry of 'Oi'.
All their Demo's and  solitary EP, were collected onto one CD released in the USA in 2005...and here it is......so if you like your punk wearing boots, leather jackets with studs on, and made by football hooligans, then this is for you. A nostalgia trip back to when some people carried it all on as if they had never really listened to any actual punk records, but just read about it in The Daily Mirror.
Don't wanna be Sinycal(sic)but....'Punks Not Dead' said the Exploited......yes it fucking was,and stuff like this were the nails in its coffin.
