Thee Outside - "Deaf Disco" (Year Zero Records YEAR002) 1997/2010

Did someone say Drum'n'Bass? This gives me the opportunity to plug this D'n'B ignored underground classic from 1997; re-released in 2010 on Year Zero records.Bizarre dark Drum'n'Bass stylings with a splash of Black Humour. Still sounds remarkably fresh, maybe because it isn't yer bog standard Drum'n'Bass format. Fused with Electronica, with a dash of Exotica, found sounds, noise samples, crossed with a drop of only the best in Elevator Muzak. You could even dance to this if you were so inclined and on drugs.Probably the most commercial record on Year Zero! Think Luke Vibert, Aphex Twin , Squarepusher and U-Ziq as musical references.

(This is now the fully restored and remastered version as of 08/10/2020)

Tracklisting:

1. Testcard (3:24)
2. Sectioned (4:58)
3. Empty Mind (5:48)

Ignored classic indeed. Brilliant stuff and the trebly production adds to rather than detracts from the proceedings, to my ear. Terrific post thank you and a nice palette cleanser from the spate of Jandek posts.

Glad you both like it, especially 'cus its a Jonny Zchivago production from the good old days - the only record that actually made me any money!

WHOAH! This is fkn awesome!!!

I was all over the proper DnB in the early/late 90's. How the hell didn't I know about these???

Truly great! Please tell me there is more ...

Sorry to say, that there ain't no more Thee Outside in the archives(i think?), and I should know(?), 'cus i was thee Outside....formerly known as Dongle, til some other 'dongle' confused matters.
I inadvisedly switched from D'n'b, recruited a girlie singer, and went in a kind of doomy Trip Hop direction(got that stuff if you want to hear it?)to court the record industry.Lots of rejection slips later...I returned to horrible noise.

So pleased you like it, its one of my fav records. The last flowerings of completely original never heard the like before music culture was Jungle etc.

Cheers Badgerstump.

Put that trip hop stuff up. If it's even half what this is it's already gold then. Wish there was more DnB like this, tripe like Pendulum is just polluting one of my favorite genres.

Ok, will do.I'll add it to this post soon.

I'm quite enjoying this. I have a soft spot for the use of recorded samples as vocals.

Its a classic, the only one of my records to have ever earned me some money,200 quid profit.

Is that Heathen Earth you're sampling there? :)

that was the source indeed,a sample of a sample...needless to say TG didn't make the hypnotist part themselves....they plundered it elsewhere.
