Various ‎Artists –" A Tribute To Bert Weedon" (Weird Tales) 1982

Fuck Off Records offshoot, Weird Tales, released their only tape in 1982,Featuring Three bands from the Poison Girls end of the Anarcho-punk black rainbow;but this is no pot of shit, thats at the Crass/Flux of Pink Indians end.
Labeling the Androids of Mu 'anarcho punk' is a slight miscarriage of justice, but there are similarities; the primary one being their hippie connections, and their links to the travelling community;y'know bus's, dogs with neckerchiefs, dreadlocks, you get the picture.
I haven't checked if these recordings of Android classics appear anywhere else in their back catalogue, but they are classics of the genre in any case.
The Mob contribute some early demo recordings of their unpretentious squat-punk,and Zounds do too......what else could an aging crusty possibly want for  Anarchristmas?

Various Artists ‎– "Slightly Weirdsville" (Fuck Off Records - FO5) 1981

Fuck Off Records go 'Anarcho Punk' compilation.
With The Astronauts, Zounds, and The Mob taking up the majority of the tape space, with only Danny and The Dressmakers giving us a welcome break from either crusty old anarcho-hippies or their preachy relatives from 1981.
I admit, this is from the more listenable end of the genre, with no crass-a-like shouty nonsense, and well crafted songs with lyrics one can hear. The uniformed masses of the Anarcho-punk hordes are a depressing mirror image of the Hive Minded masses, and i've always found it utterly repulsive with its silly banners and washed out blacks.Alas, I do have a soft spot for The Mob, who's musical incompetence is an attractive feature in their sparsely arranged and simple tunes. The Astronauts are a bit too close to, the even worse, Punky Folk style, that later gave birth to the abysmal Levellers, a group that makes me wanna smash up my record collection. The Astronauts are at least outsiders, so that scores many brownie points.
The Androids of Mu are, of course, Great; although they do represent the transient anarcho-hippie community turned punk; but I can overlook that faux-pas as the music is charmingly lightweight in that now rare anti-masculine ,girlie style.
Sticking out like a very sore thumb, both musically and in sound quality,is Cardiac Arrest; the precursor to Cardiacs, with their classic single which, along with their album, you can get here!
There's the Hippie Punk of Blank Space too.....not bad that.
On the more negative side is one of thee worst tracks i have ever heard on Fuck Off Wreckords;namely Bob Green's terrible post hippie awfulness about some rolling stones lick in the sky.....yuk! Also there is a totally unlistenable track from Daevid Allen and friends!
But don't worry, anything with Danny and the Dressmakers on it can't be anything other than Brilliant!

The Petticoats - "Peel Session 15/10/1980"

dUE TO THE OVERWHELMING POPULARITY OF THE pETTICOATS SINGLE POST, FROM THE OLD BLOG YEARS AGO. i BRING Y'ALL THE NEAR-LEGENDARY LOST pETTICOATS jOHN PEEL SESSION FROM OCTOBER 1980!
Now I realise that the caps lock was on, I will remove it, and marvel at the three tracks that were broadcast twice, and then lost forever in the vast vaults of the magnificent BBC archives. The sound quality is not hi-fi standard, but that was never the objective of Stef petticoats' solo band anyway.
She plays all the instruments, which is probably why she only managed three tracks in a day at Maida Vale Studios.
And to further enlighten you all to the mechanisations of Stef's brain, there now follows an interview with said lady, that she gave to No Class.co.uk in 2008:

What's your favourite punk rock song?
There are so many! I cannot decide. I think Patti Smith's Free Money was the first who blew my mind. Then The Sex Pistols, Ramones, Fall, Au Pairs, ATV, etc.

Can you tell me about any interest from major record labels?
Nothing received.

What did your family think of your records?
They were happy for me but at the same time worried over my financial future. Rightly so!

Is the world ready for a Petticoats revival?
Some people tell me yes, but I don't believe in a revival. I am surprised though, about the amount of fans I have, especially in the USA.

Who do you listen to, musically?
A wide variety of music, old punk stuff - I love my old John Peel tapes, old soul, Amy Winehouse, indie stuff like Times New Viking, The Gossip, newer Women's music like Le Tigre, etc., swing.

Are any of your old records still available?
The Petticoats single is. I am currently selling them to various record shops and individual people. A few Scaling Triangles are also around.

Will you gig again?
I sing in a soul choir and have gigs with them. I hope to do the occasional gig with my last band 69 Lies.

Do you remember the Androids of Mu? Are you still in touch with anyone from the band?
I do remember them. Their singer Corrina had the idea of the Making Waves compilation. I have lost contact with them.

2 Dreams

Various Artists - "The Weird Sampler" (Weird Noise Tapes W 000) 1980

One of the classic DIY compilations of the original DIY Cassette Culture era, from Fuck Off Records spin off label, Weird Noise Tapes. No less than 10 Danny and the Dressmakers tracks on here! The 012, The Sell Outs, Good Missionaries, and ATV! A classic DIY Rant Poem from 'The Undertaker', Hippie Punk from Blank Space and The Androids of Mu, an Ironic DIY punk classic from the Horrible Nurds, DIY prog excerpts from Anthrax for the people with their concept album "The Grand Union Canal Mystery", the list of greatness goes on; all this and an unknown girl and an unknown band too!
You may recognise a few tracks from that seminal vinyl ep, "The Weird Noise Ep", but this is where they appeared first, with superbly inferior third generation copy cassette hiss.
The insert lists an Instant Automatons excerpt, but I'm damned if I can identify it!
What we do have instead is three tracks from Anthrax for the People, and the Hearing aids, and The magnificent Door and the Window.
(Yes, the ATV track listed as "the Force is Blind" is in fact "Release  the Natives"; but that's all part of the charm innit?)

The Androids Of Mu - " Blood Robots" (Fuck Off Records FLP 001) 1980

(repost from October 2009 on the original suppressed Die or DIY? Blog)

The first Vinyl LP release from Kif Kif's Fuck Off disorganisation. The all Female Androids Of Mu, and their lp "Blood Robots" from 1980.
Apparently Crass wanted to sign them up to their label, but, wanted to record them with a "proper" drummer. Of course they told the over politicised smelly hippies to... "FUCK OFF".
Involved Suze Da Blooze (sadly RIP 2007)from Here and Now, who formed all girl band The Androids of Mu with Corrina, Cozzie and Birsen. Although a collaborative project, Suzy shared lead vocals with Corrina and wrote much of their material.

The Androids were well received by all, including the music press of the day. They were an integral part of the post punk scene and released one album “Blood Robots”, with one music paper headline proclaiming it as “Android Genius”.
produced by Kif Kif and Grant Showbiz from said group at the semi-myhical Street Level Studios.
Excellently weak and amateur rock, with an Outsider Punk Flavour; and we all like Outsider Punk don't we???
