5ive Ximes Of Dust (5XOD) - "5XOD" (MAP Tapes- Amp002) 1982

Ok, What's the best Minimal Synth record ever?.......correct....."The Dada Computer" by The Dada Computer", who were Mark Phillips (aka MAP, Ampnoise) and Robert Lawrence (aka Robert Lawrence),who were also known as 5ive Ximes Of Dust, aka 5XOD.......is that clear?
I guess that this was their first outing as (i'll use the contracted form from now onwards) 5XOD, with this 9 track C-45. Packed with their trademark lo-budget fizzy solid state electronica, which produces some of the most beautiful analogue sine wave majesty ever captured on chrom-dioxide tape.
It has that ZX spectrum/Commodore C64 retro game soundtrack feel to it, but far more substantial, and doesn't get on your fucking nerves. I could listen to this all day long, and still want more. Can't rate this Bristolian duo highly enough (Even though Rob Lawrence was based in Cardiff;just a Toll Bridges ride away).

DOWNLOAD as many Ximes as you like HERE!

Hi
Rob here from 5X0D - many thanks for your great review.
This tape was actually recorded after Dadacomputer! MAP and Suisse came over from Bristol to visit me for a few days in Spring 1982 (dada was done in the Autumn/winter of 81), and we made most of the recordings then. Just so you know, Cherry Red are soon to release a formative UK electronica 4 CD set - and 5X0D are lucky enough to have two tracks on it, one of which is Computer Bank from Dada! Keep up the fine work my friend. Rob(5X0D)

Hi Rob,
Thanks for the info. I have a few more of the 5XOD stuff coming up, as Pink Press Threat says, 'stunning'. This stuff is just perfect music for my ears. I acquired the complete MAP 7 recently, so thats in line after 5XOD. I hope it will raise your profile further. Cheers, JZ.

Many thanks you are a star my friend! -
it is fun to watch the s l o w
progress of the tanker 5X0D -
but thanks to you, it may get to Port Fame that bit sooner. like we care.
Have copied all your MAP text and laugh out loud observations onto a memory stick. The man, who is probably making music as I type,is not on the web much, so I'll give him this treat when next I see him.
Rob

Cheers Rob, 'famous when dead' is a phrase that springs to mind.
One of the aspects of your work that makes it even more special,is its apparent lack of ambition, as in the need for fame. Yet it never lacks ambition on the creative side of the coin. The lack of 'ego' makes for a purer listening experience.and purer 'art'. I hope MAP enjoys my rambling musings.

Hello...

One question, according to DISCOGS site this album should have two more tracks from side B, it means: Workplay (B3) and Revolving Breasts (B5). Have you different edition of this cassette or somewhere were lost these tracks?
