The Stalin – "Trash" (Political Records – MIG2505L) 1981

Hmmm,Rather exciting is this Japanese Punk Rock stuff.
And a refreshing change is that no Jap Punk ever reckons they invented Punk Rock, ever!!!
It helps that they never had any Bubblepunk proto power pop groups with Brian Jones hairdo's hanging out at the jap version of the Roundhouse.
You wouldn't find any Brian Jones hairdo's in Tokyo(or London) in 1980 ,and beyond....but you will find a stampede of Colin from GBH look-a-likes, and  weedy versions of 'Wattie' from the Exploited .
To a large portion of the planet, this is what 'Punk' is all about, and who can argue against that?...despite the dodgy version of the Bowl-cut punk bubblegum classic 'Blitzkrieg Bop' making up the numbers.

Oh come on! No love for the Pere Ubu reference in the download link? Shocking disgrace (and yes I know the title was originally from a WWII film but for anyone of a certain age...).
Agreed, Japanese Punk definitely has its own charm (was it this blog that posted the Japan Oi! compilation? now that's a classic!)
& while they are one of the very few Western countries not to claim punk zero hour status, some of the very early underground music by Shuji Terayama, Tokyo Kid Brothers and the Throw Away Your Books, Rally in the Streets film soundtracks are fierce to say the least.
Add this to Les Rallizes Dénudés & I guess Japan yoof were always primed for punkrock.
One thing I'd rather listen to The Stalin than pretty much any second wave punk from the UK from the same time period, though that may simply be the 'grass is always greener on the other side of the world' school of music appreciation.
