Conrad Schnitzler ‎– "CON 84" - (Transmitter Cassetten ‎– TC 124/125) 1984

Three hours,on two c-90's, of Conrad Schnitzler's Bach-pretentions. 4 different, dated(in both senses of the word) improvisations on synthesizer; it just sounds like he's moving his fingers on a keyboard. They could be scored ,but it doesn't sound like it to these untrained ears. Its very long, and could have done with some editing, like down to a single C-90 . The synth sounds are very unadventurous and seem to be influenced by the era this was recorded in. This is the time when electronic music tried to emulate real instruments, and failed disastrously. Schnitzler is far better when he's using electronic sounds that sound like electronic sounds,as does anyone.

Tracklist:

A1.1.84
B29.2.84
C1.7.84
D10.10.84

Mega thanks for both Connie posts. Even as prolific as he was, there's not enough. Blessings.

Though Conrad Schnitzler is my favourite Master of any era, I have to say that you are right saying that "This is the time when electronic music tried to emulate real instruments, and failed disastrously. Schnitzler is far better when he's using electronic sounds that sound like electronic sounds, as does anyone".

Tend to agree as well about your assessment of this one! Could've made a good 60-90 min compilation, but this is spreading a bit thin.

Good to hear voices of agreement out there. I suppose these tapes should really be listened to in context of the time in which they were made ,when the era of technology was new and we didn't know how to use it. So it got trapped in time, unlike the early seventies which has become timeless. 1984/5 will always be 1984/5.

@Christos Tsanakas, Alan Burns and Jonny Z:

Thank you for your insightful comments. I came late to the Schnitzler party, and I appreciate your perspectives on his work as it relates to the scenes at the time.

Cheers,

I'll be the dissenting dickhead, now that the party is long over...I think this is pretty great! editing it down would kinda defeat the whole piece I think too........it's more varied than I expected from your review...It informs his whole ouvre I guess......but even by itself it stands all erect and shit....any way thanks for all the great downloads, don't know how I woulda ever heard all this stuff!

How dare you disagree with ME!?
I'd have to listen to it all again to have a response, and i ain't gonna sit here for three hours just to agree with myself again.
So you're probably right....its sounds like you should be right anyway, and thats good enough for me.
Having said that, those PPG wave/DX7 sounds do give me the proverbial heebie Geebies; so that ain't a good start.
