Therefore,one must applaud the often overlooked pasty faced Twee/Shoegaze combo Pale Saints,for existing in such an environment.They seemed sensitive types,and sang in a girly way that would have yer average Yorkshire-man demanding that they make him a meal immediately,with gravy that you could stand yer bloody spoon up in.
Naturally, 4AD snapped these delicate chaps up within three seconds of the first track of this demo,and the rest is history....especially the bit where The Pale Saints are nothing less than forgotten in the annals of Twee indie Shoegaze music;but at least it got them away from Leeds United Football fans eh?

Leeds is much worse than that Jonny. I had the misfortune of living there for a while in the social circle of anarcho-syndicalists ruled over, like a commie Marie Antoinette, by Chumbawumba's Alice Nutter and her groupie nepo-boyfriend. One afternooon I was dragged to see a band called Dog on a Rope perform in a gymnasium where we all sat on 3-sides on the beachers and after each short,brutal & nasty song (a good one calle Myrthyr Tydfil) everyone looked right to assess the party line before politely applauding. No one danced or stood up, and it just ended and everyone left. Like a squat-punk opera.

Rev.b.....I think I've been rather harsh on Leeds in the name of entertainment,they were a very fertile city for a number jolly fine popular music groups of the 80's and beyond...Mekons Gang of Four Delta 5 Sisters of Mercy,Soft Cell etc....all students rather than locals but you get what i'm a getting at......not to mention where Jimmy Savile used to run a disco!
