Mecanique Végétale - " Musique pour Self-Service " - ( Grafika Airlines – GRA 8 ) 1981

Released on the rather marvelous Grafika Airlines cassette label from.....Belgium; this is an outstanding creation of epicly hypnotique, minimally electronique proportions. Reminds one greatly of the equally superb Sea Of Wires, from around the same era. Most likely they used the exact same budget synths, made to sound even lower budget by the splendid medium of ferric oxide cassette tape.
So, get in your home made flotation tank and regress to the analogue beauty of "Musique Pour Self-Service".( whether that alludes to some sort of masturbatory accompaniment I do not know? Its up to you.)

PiL / Public Image Limited - "Live at the Rainbow, 26th December 1978"

Christmas day 1978 was lacking something for my 14 year old self. My brother and cousin were noticeably absent from the family festivities. Then the gutting news filtered out that they had gone to London to see Johnny Rotten's new group!! Left to watch the Morecambe and Wise Christmas show, while they were lording it down at the Rainbow!
One anecdote sticks in my brain, as relayed by my older sibling, was when a lack of appreciation was evident for support band Basement 5, the droning voice of one J. Rotten was heard over the PA suggesting some activity in this department;
"I hear no applause???", said mr Lydon.
The response of the audience was obedience personified, and they applauded as ordered by their leader. Oh those rebellious punk rockers eh?
As the Christmas day show wasn't bootlegged(which apparently It Was I am now told!?), we'll have to make do with the boxing day show instead. In all its warehouse style acoustic glory.
Lydon, the voice that launched a thousand DIY bands.

The Die or DIY? Christmas Mixtape 2013 - "Jesus Hates YOU! (21 reasons why God CANNOT exist)"

"What would we do without Christians?", I hear you ask......well, probably not;but the answer is not simple, unlike their answer to Life, The Universe and Everything.Unfortunately that answer isn't 42,and nor is the answer to the first question;but, without these Intellectually lazy simpletons, there wouldn't be space on this planet for the huge human population that would be living today.Without Christians, there would have been no Holocaust, no ethnic cleansing of any kind, very few wars, and basically very little mindless slaughter in general! "But what about Hitler?", they say. "he was an Atheist."
Adolf was raised a strict catholic, referred to God many times in his rabid speeches, and never renounced his Catholicism at  any point in his notorious career. In fact, the endless Catholic propaganda against Jews for killing Christ was almost certainly a major motivational factor behind the final solution.....for Hitler anyway.
So that means there have been No,zero, Atheist Wars.
One thing that Christians do very well, apart from Bigotry mass murder and war, is DIY media.
The large majority of it is of course complete Shite, but a lot of it are extraordinary examples of often hilarious stupidity, sinister brainwashing attempts, and hysterical propaganda that Goebbels himself would be shocked by.
The Plastic surgery disaster that adorns the cover of this years xmas tape, is one Jan Crouch .TV evangelist and thief, who misappropriated church funds to spend on a lavish lifestyle. Items of expenditure included expensive homes, private jets, and a $100,000 air conditioned mobile home solely for Jan Crouch's dogs.
The track featuring here will leave you open mouthed in astonishment as she relays one of her fucked up dreams where she met Jesus and rediscovered her 'Joy'.Section 8 stuff.
The most outrageous and borderline upsetting material presented here, is by some despicable scumbag called Lil' Markie. Who is some bible belt Goebbels who trys to get our kids by pretending to be a kid talking about such righteous subjects as Alcoholism, and er...Abortion? This complete bastard, talks through a pitch changer to sound like a child (a hideous little creep that you wanna hit), belching out evil christian propaganda for the ears and minds of the innocent.
Probably the most contemptuous piece of naked evil ever committed to the recorded medium is the 'Pro-Life' inspired "Diary of an Unborn Child".
This electric shock therapy of a mind control experiment, charts the life of a gestating Foetus up to the point where he is aborted. Recited with that awful pitch shifted voice of a small boy, he describes all the wonderful things that are happening to him as he grows in his mothers womb.Ending with the endearing nursery rhyme refrain of "Why did you kill me mommy?". I would happily break number six of the ten commandments if I ran into this total cunt. Jesus, please save us from your followers!
In the category of a cult that should be sectioned en mass, is Church Universal and Triumphant, and their (now thankfully very Dead) high priestess Elizabeth Clare Prophet.Their church must have padded walls; just listen to the "Invocation for judgement against and destruction of rock music", and marvel at the fact that these people are NOT on drugs.
Alas, they do have on thing in common with this blog, they have compiled a comprehensive list of Rock Stars who should burn in hell that we can all agree with. Its just a pity that there ain't no Hell so that these religious nut jobs can't spend the rest of eternity there in the company of Cindy Looper (sic) and the Alan Parsons Project!!!?

Another complete Twat is some cloth eared god squad DJ called Michael Mills. Who spent hours on end playing Rock albums backwards......yes, backwards!....to find hidden 'satanic' messages, like "Turn me on Dead Man" from the Beatles Revolution Number  9. Obviously a reference to Satan?........er No,its number nine played backwards!
Queen bigged up the devil by masking the phrase, "Some of us smoke marijuana" in 'Another One Bites the Dust"!? What the fuck that has to do with Satanism I don't fucking know. It goes on, Led Zep sings, "I know I've Been There"...???.....know what?Been Where?.....this prat needs to go to the padded Church Universal and Triumphant....and fucking stay there!
The most sinister part of this tape is the thinly veiled attempts to penetrate the forming minds of children. Admittedly the minds of Christian children, but nevertheless its brain washing of the most despicable kind.
A favourite tactic is to use puppets, or ventriloquist dummies to appeal to the vulnerable innocence of children trapped in a religious prison...I mean Home? Child abuse by any other name, but acceptable if its in the name of a God.
This is represented here by the prolific Little Marcy and Little Cindy.
One track advocates the joys of "Obedience". Which is advisable for Christian kids, because the bible advocates Stoning to death as punishment for children who disrespect their parents.Among other fine God advocated recommendations like gang rape, infanticide, genocide, and Incest.(Check it out Christians, read your Bible.)
And don't worship "Other Gods" or you'll be in serious trouble, like the Golden calf incident; when God told Moses to kill as many of these traitors as possible.
Anyway, you mean to say that there are 'Other' Gods?....I thought God said he was the only god and he created the universe in eight days? What did the 'other' Gods do? Or is he lying? I'm confused!? In fact what did the God from the bible do before he created the Universe?
This is the kind of insidious Mind Control that is prevalent in Cults of all denominations. In fact I leave near one here in France. This one though isn't Christian, its Buddhist, which is openly based on mind control.A popular phrase that is often used in these detention centres for the dysfunctional, is ominously, "Leave shoes and minds at the door". The teachers always say the most sinister things with that subtle touch of humour.....ha!ha!haaa!
This place is run by a serial fat sex pest called Sogyal Rinproche, writer of "The Tibetian Book of Living and Dying". Frequently seen prowling his compound built by unpaid slaves,(including, i'm ashamed to say, me!...they didn't pay me!) surrounded by an entourage of young impressionable women, looking for .....I think I'm gonna be sick...."Guidance". Why this fat cunt hasn't been imprisoned I'll never know......wait I do know....he's a multi-millionaire (very buddhist), and he's a religious leader....they can do anything they want.
But isn't Buddhism a philosophy, NOT a religion?....they often say, despite often being witnessed praying to a big Gold Statue.
If its a Godless Philosophy there's nothing in the way of arresting  this overweight sex monster today.
And don't forget Buddhist invented Suicide Bombing, firstly as the Kamikazi Buddhist sect in WW2, then in the Sri Lankan civil war. Who said Buddhists don't fight wars?

Its not all shit on this tape, there a couple of pleasantly funky numbers, and a track by a johnny come lately Garage Punk Band called Our Generation from 1972. its another cynical tactic used by the church to reach the young people.Fine in theory, but they were always six or seven years too late with the trend. releasing an album of psychedelic acid rock in the Glam Era was not gonna reach anybody, apart from the preppy dorks who were already going to these medeval museums.
The track "Hello friends" sounds like PiL mark one crossbred with the Electric Prunes.A jah Wobble Bassline, fuzz guitar , and sunshine pop vocal harmonies.Something that could only be created by someone who were locked up in a cupboard for a decade, or some Christians.

(Note -One cannot help noticing that the vast majority ,er 100%,of this compilation features Americans! This is because Britain, and Europe had the foresight to kick out all the dodgy God Squad and send them packing to the New World to find 'Religious freedom'? They found this freedom,so they could repress themselves instead of being 'repressed' by the powers in the old countries.Sowing the roots of the American Taliban that we know and love today!
Australia were lucky enough to have just got the convicts,so were spared this fate worse than the bible belts version of Hell!)

Anyway, have a happy Midwinter Festival, and I hope you enjoy spoiling your xmas dinner with the utterly mindless crap on this compilation.

Het Magisch Theater - " Magthea and Insanity " (Self-release) 1983

Any art that has the uber realist philosophy, as printed on the insert of this cassette, and I quote:
"The only meaning of life is Emptiness. The Horrible, beautiful Emptiness. There is no evil, no good; there is only the blind power of: to be or not to be, to will or not to will, to do or not to do. Nothing is arranged. It is chaos where-out the uncontrolled insanity grows...".
......has to be good!
But, this is great!
I assume this was intended as an accompanying electronic soundtrack  for some dodgy fringe theatre production in Antwerp, Belgium, back in 1983. A year when it seemed that everyone in that fine land had a synthesizer,and/or a minimal electronic project going on.
This C-60 is a forgotten classic of the era, full of throbbing oscillators, tin pot drum machines, and monophonic synths-a-plenty.
And remember, the only meaning of life is Emptiness, but the kind of emptiness found on this cassette gives life meaning.A horrible, beautiful meaning.

Cortex - " Souvenir / Souvenirs " - ( Grafika Airlines GRA 20) 1984

Another classic from superb Belgian label Grafika Airlines.
Basically it`s Alain Neffe, of Bene Gesserit and the Insane Music cassette label fame, with various sultry voiced female francophones, recorded from an astonishingly early 1975 to 1982.
Minimal is the word, and reminds one of the two Kluster albums from 1970/71.
A stark one tone electronic backing, fronted by  part narrated/ part sung, dialogue provided by the various girlies listed on the inlay card above.
Those Belgians sure know the meaning of the mantra: "Its not what you put in , its what you leave out".
And Cortex certainly left out a lot on this proto-Minimalist relic of a future that never happened.

Pseudo Code - "Remains to be heard Volume 1" (Insane Music INS14) 1984

More Pseudo Code in a kind of free form minimal electronique-concrete mood. There`s even the odd suggestion of a pop tune here and there, maybe even some danceable beats; if you`ve got one leg shorter than the other and have an inner ear problem.Throw in a healthy portion of Noise and you`ve got a fine slab of experimental Electronics for most of the family to hate!
The vocals sound like they`ve been recorded on the shittest cassette they could find, and the musiky stuff on a top quality multitrack unit; even though they would only have used 2 tracks out of the 24.
A classic of experimental unpopular electronics.

Pseudo Code - "Remains to be heard, Volume 2" - (Isane Music INS15) 1986

Almost structureless free-ish electronic minimalism; some would call this Industrial, dare I say Jazz, as fronted by Mark E. Smith soundalike Xavier Stenmans. Non-Music made by non-musicians for non-musicians.
The very fact that I am struggling to categorise this fine animal is a testament to some fine experimental music. It should be the aim of all experimental musics to escape definition as much as possible, and I think Pseudo Code have achieved this. Minimal free Industrial Jazz Rap anyone?......or have I "had too much to think"?(Don Van Vliet, 1980)

I Scream - "Tomorrrow is Another Day" - (Grafika Airlines GRA21) 1986

Another Alain Neffe pseudonym I wager. Sounds very similar to anything he has to do with. Structureless electronics swirling around melodyless synth noodling, then it stops, and another starts. This is Do It Yourself music for people with no musical ability whatsoever.
Which is a good thing, because if Music was left to musicians, experimental music would probably not exist, except in a very exclusive high-brow world where Alain Neffe would be eternally exiled from. This is Punk culture in its purest form. The fact that these tracks were recorded between 1973 and  1978 makes this "proto-punk" and could well claim to be heavily influenced by various Krautrockers, probably Cluster more than anything else one believes.

Human Flesh - "The Third Human Attempt" (Aeon Records AE003) 1984

More Alain Neffe abstract electronica; this time called Human Flesh. It sounds very similar to Pseudo Code, but without the Mark E. Smith-isms. Lots of echo laden synth doodlings, with occasionnal submerged vocalising, drowning in the large spaces left behind by the sparce instrumental backdrop.
Very minimal,very good indeed.

Human Flesh - "A Collection of Ambient Music : Volume 1" _ (Insane Music INS18) 1986

The powers that wanna be have tried to remove me from the digital highway, but are realising that you cannot uninvent something once you have invented it; or as some clever chap suggested, restoring a genie back into its bottle.
Including this.....er...... collection of ambient music from Neffe and collaborators.
The title says it all i suppose,so i won`t, in fact , can`t be bothered to write anything witty about it; not that I do anyway, but there you go.

Missing Persons - "The Nuclear wasteland" (Self-Released Cassette) 1980

There was an extremely shit US new wave band called "Missing Persons" that existed around the same time as these middle class farm dwelling punk-hippies.
I am pleased to say that this is not that awful American atrocity, but those very sub-crass post-prog hippie-punks that were very prominent on the original DIY scene of the late seventies. They released cassettes on Kif-Kif's Weird Noise label, were on Deleted Records' classic "Deleted Funtime", recorded at Street Level, and were very active on the Fuck Off records scene.
As you can see, they seemed very fond of the "Concept Performance", a very rare hangover from the recently deceased Progressive Rock scene, this can be heard in some of their very Pink Floyd Demo style acoustic guitar.
These are the very weak points on this sprawling cassette. Hearing the sixth-form poetry and fifth-form politics sung in by a bourgeois rural rebel, accompanied by a well strummed acoustic guitar make me wanna smash something!
There's something very wrong with an acoustic in the hands of a Brit*, Americans ok, but in the UK it usually points to a privileged or middle class background(see James Fucking Blunt etc). What is more disturbing about this recent inclination towards middle and upper class kids to pick up a banjo, or Double fucking Bass, is that the irrelevant rich are taking over the pop charts, like they did Football (that's soccer for you Americans). If I saw that tribe of Toffs , Mumford and Fucking Sons, in the street, I'd have to organise a swift stoning to death. Oh their God, I despair for the young people of today, what the fuck are they playing at?
In fact I know; they have been systematically brainwashed to accept this shit status quo(not the magnificent band) and be happy with the crap that we are drip-fed by the TV,Internet, glossy mags, and False Flag media lies.
Mumford and Son are the poster boys of these systems of control. So smash your Banjo's before they have your mind too!
(counting to ten........breathing slowly........relaxed again!)

*I have to, at this point, say, that this generalization does not include the peerless Patrik Fitzgerald, in who's hands the Acoustic Guitar has the same power as that of Woody Guthrie,or Bobby Dylan.

Back to Missing Persons:
The non acoustic tracks are really rather splendid, and at times sound like The Residents when they were good.
Amongst the cheap beat box electronica, we have the odd, and the very ODD, standard melodic Punk Rock number, wot ain't half bad. This would have made a fine C-30.
