The Field Mice – "Snowball 10" + Singles" (Sarah Records – SARAH 402) 1989

The original Snowflakes and Twee giants The Field Mice, could have been The Stone Roses if they came from some northern ghetto and walked like a bunch of monkey's.
Of course The Stone Roses were obviously Twee shoegazing wannabe's on drugs, rather than sensitive young men and ladie(s) from the stockbroker belt running light on mental issues.
You all know I like a nice mauve ten incher in my hand every now and again, and this one is a classic of the Twee genre, with the occasional rocker tucked in there for good measure.
Even better than this mini-album would have to be the 5 or so singles that came out around the same time, including the rather groovy "Sensitive",which i guess is their signature tune Stone Roses album ender on 45.
Blissfully oblivious of the Madchester nonsense that would eventually kill The Field Mice and shoegaze off,of which, there was a lot about in '89 ,unfortunately;these nice young snowflakes, stuck stubbornly to their post C-86 indie pop and made a bucket full of sweet tunes for us,from a much better time to be alive.....No Internet full of nutjobs,True Patriots,Critical Race Theorists, or impending Facist takeovers or failed coup's back then. Maybe send a copy of this to mark the first anniversary of the Ukraine WAR,(packed with explosives?), to Mad Vlad....he really does need to relax a bit and calm the fuck down!? I'm really worried about the Cunts mental health....Honest.

  1. I think two first albums by The Happy Mondays are still solid Madchester ones, isn`t? And The Fall`s albums would have changed into a similar dance-appealed direction either since the beginning of the 90s (which are also good). Regarding The Stone Roses my favourite is the compilation one "Turns Into Stone" but I can`t listen to the studio albums by them anymore. In fact, the first impression was not that good either (but it was hip to listen to). I guess the British press searched for a next big thing after The Smiths but The Stone Roses could not be up to.

Indeed, there is no enough psychiatrists around. Some days ago Kremlin propagandists discussed about the activation of the vulcano of a diameter of 60 km lying beneath The Yellowstone NP with a A-bomb strike. I guess those adverse effects will not reach Russia because Vlad is either a Zuperhero or Russia is not a part on Earth.

  2. Yeah I couldn't disguise my horror when i saw a DJ in the Fall line up...no wonder Bramah left for the second time.....although Extricate is probably the last great Fall LP, the DJ/scratching bits were desperate. Then the alcohol tightened its grip and MES became that drunk bloke we all knew. He did have that Italian House fixation also which made us think maybe we don't know what we're talking about....turns out that we did know what we were talking about....he'd lost it.Although, i did enjoy him and his scummy manc mates dancing to that shit on stage in between Groups....very funny.
The words Happy Mondays just depresses me,and has me thinking 'What's the fucking point' to myself....I was ejected from a Mondays gig in 1989 for vomiting in the bar...that was what madchester was all about was it not, fuck all to do with music.
As for The Stone Roses.....i knew something was up when i saw the artwork for the LP....oh wow, the one with the brain has seen a Pollock. But reminds me of some fun times,I wanna Be Adored on MDMA....or was it because i was YOUNG!!!

Groan...Putin!!!?..Yep, don't forget the radioactive Tidal wave his TV henchmen Twats have promised the UK and Ireland.....its as if no-one else has nuclear weapons...i'll say it again...TWATS"

  3. Going to carefully cast votes for both/either "The Real New Fall LP" and/or "Your Future Our Clutter" as last GREAT Fall LP but as we know this is an unsolvable argument. That said, there is still a veritable wealth to be found scattered across late period Fall albums, not discounting your obvious point above there Jonny.

  4. As for the Happy Mondays, I'll vouch for a large part of the debut album and Bummed. Tart, Tart is a fine Ryder rant with a funky bassline and Bummed sounds like the drug addled hazy fog it is because Hannett was slowly succumbing to wet brain and heart failure. Pills though is where I gave up. Still listen to the Field Mice and almost never to the Stone Roses.

  5. Lol, Wet Brain. A chap in my village has that.He invented a new language that consisted of mumbling, not unlike the Soup Dragon from the Clangers, and loud groans.Apart from that he just seems drunk all the time without even drinking,i don't think he even knows what drinking is any more.I could ask him,but even google translate wouldn't decipher what the fuck he was saying. He still lives on.....with his 90 year old mum.
